    I am a regular user of Kazaa but I now getting worried about possible detection by the authorities for downloading copyrighted music. Can anybody recommend some freeware to enable me to mask,fake or hide my IP address. I have a laptop and use the companys broadband at work and a dial up at home.

    Appreciate any pointers or help

    :o

    Is it even possible to do this? I would have thought that in order to actualy recieve some files then the computers your downloading from would have to know your IP address. Otherwise, how would the files get to you?

    And remember, IANAL but it's only the unauthorised distribution/copying of copyrighted works that's illegal. Not the recieving of unauthorised distribution/copying of copyrighted works. :)

    I'm sure IRMA would only be delighted to show you how many ways thats incorrect. Not to mention any copyright lawyer.

    They have been focusing only on big shares doodle and not on people who just leech......it worries me a bit as I share 120GB of stuff so I may be one of the biggest sharers in Ireland, I may be first in any legal crap :(

    Where they are enforcing is not the point I was making, I was simply pointing out that saying downloading copyrighted material as long as you don't upload it again is about as legally binding as sitting in the corner muttering a mantra of "Its not illegal if I don't want it to be".

    Thanks to all for the comments.
    So it seem that there is not easy way to mask,hide,or fake your IP address. Is it possible to get into my control system and change the ip or machine electronic number so at least the owner of the laptop (my company) cannot be contacted.Therefore the only way I can be traced is by the dial up or brodband that I connect to???

    :confused::confused:
