well i orderd a high spec laptop off dell on the 14th of october last and have not recieved the damn thing!all i wanted to do was get it on finance for three years and i never recieved a phone call or email to let me know if i was elgigable for their finance. after many many phone calls about 30 and being told everyday when i would ring them that they would email the finance department and get them to email me out the finance documents immediatly for me to sign and fax back i finally lost it with their absolutly crap customer care service and told them to f**k off! i pity the woman at the other end of the phone as i gave her a huge amount of verbal abuse and it wasnt even her fault! so much for what it says on their website of only taking between 7-10 days to recieve a laptop off them once the order has been submitted. i will never ever again for the rest of my living days give dell any of my custom again! it was the most poor service i have ever recieved!!! so be warned dont deal with the b******s!!!!!!!  :(:(

And you never even got to enjoy the delights of tech support from India.

Suprised no one's been on telling you to build it yourself.

What normally happens when someone mentions buying a Dell. It was a joke FFS

By sheer coincidence I've built hundreds of Thinkpads and I got the parts from a man in Greenock

    I'll get me coat

Buy the parts on EBay from varous laptops. I do that with Dell laptops.. generally prefer to work with Dell stuff (parts are everywhere on ebay, excellent website support). The new Dell Inspiron 9200 looks pretty sweet btw..

I had a similar experience last Febuary. There's a really long story involved, but the end result was that my treatment by Dell was absolutely disgraceful and I've never reccommend anyone buying from them.

PM me if you want the story, I couldn't be arsed typing it right now. :D

If you want personal finance from dell, its done by TSB, you must be in full time employment for over a year, and have some record of a good credit history ie you got a loan and paid it back, you have not defaulted or been late on any loans you do have etc etc

If you've never had a loan of any sort they will not give you a finance option, unless you earn a lot of money, in which case why apply for finance anyway?

Whomever you spoke to first should have dealt with it. Lazy sales people, but my guess is your application for finance failed so the only reason anyone would ring you would be to give you that bad news - most sales people would (wrongly I admit) prefer to avoid that unpleasnt task, and they left you hanging.

I work in business sales in Dell and I'll give you a good deal if you PM me, but I'm afraid if you want spread payments I'm no help, as business sales can only do that for a company or sole trader with very healthy accounts.

If you were indeed accepted for finance I can get someone to look after it for you.

    Anyway, best of luck.

EVERYONE READ THIS PM THAT FENSTER SENT ME EARLIER ON THIS EVENING! IT'S VERY INTERESTING READING AND BACKS UP MY STORY TO SOME EXTENT!

<QUOTE>Gather round the campfire, friend, for a horrible tale of Dell's Services...

Last Febuary, I decided It Was Time For A New PC. Being somewhat unfamiliar with assembly, I just went to the Dell website and basically ordered their most expensive gaming desktop.

    The transaction got turned down.

I ring the bank, they say everything is okay with the account, so I submit it again.

    Again, it got turned down.

At this point, I get a call from a Dell sales rep. I can't remember his name for the life of me, so lets call him Simon.

Simon tells me that if I like, he can resubmit the entire transaction to the bank from his end. I agree, and this time around it goes through perfectly.

That was Thursday, on Monday, I arrive home from work to find a shiny new laptop waiting for me.

I figured that it was just a distribution cock-up. I work with distribution myself, so I didn't think it was anything big, until I called the next morning to recetify my order. Simon insisted that I had in fact ordered a laptop and spent a good ten minutes arguing with me on this matter. Eventually he admits that he messed up and promises that the laptop will be picked up and my desktop delivery by friday.

    Two weeks pass...

I call Simon, and once again he gives me this big bull**** story about how the courier tried to contact me, but failed and tries to argue with me about how they've done their best. I deal daily with the courier that Dell use and I point out they had several contact numbers for me (work, home, my mobile and my brother's mobile) and that if delivery fails despite that, they leave a note informing you of it.

He admits that he took no action regarding the laptop and I give him until Friday (this was Monday) to provide the desktop, or I'd seek a full refund.

    Well, roll on Friday, nothing.

I ring Simon and get a voice-mail message informing all callers that he had left Dell and that any outstanding issues must be dealt with through customer services.

I contact customer services, and get put through to one of the Indian support centres. In fairness to the call centre, they were actually pretty helpful. They laid out all the facts of the issue from Dell's side and I basically found out that Simon put through a laptop in the initial order and took absolutely no action otherwise as he was leaving Dell within a month.

With what I had then, I emailed Dell in Ireland and told them I wanted an immediate refund and uplift of the laptop or I'd take them to court-I know that this seems a pretty short timescale, but I work in a warehouse and deal with distribution services daily, so I don't really take any crap from them with regards stuff that I order.

They agreed immediately to a refund and uplift. However, another week passed in which delivery "failed twice". I contacted the courier myself at work and found that no order had been sent to them by Dell about uplift of a laptop. Extremely pissed at this point, I threaten to go to the press unless I get an immediate ulift and refund. The laptop was collected the next day and my money back within a week, at which point I went into Maplin and bought the parts for a better PC than the Dell one, which worked out about €500 cheaper.

So, I advise everyone to avoid them.<QUOTE>

If you just used a credit card, you could have just complained to the credit card company and got them to cancel the transaction. Buying a machine through HP or a bank loan isn't very smart. At the minimum borrow from the credit union and use that to pay the credit card bill.

If I might, the finance company only acts as an intermediary. You send off your details for the finance to them and then they in turn approve your bank to lend you the money for the item according to whatever terms you set.

Any issues thereafter are dealt with by your bank, and not the finance company.

What has that got to do with what I said? I still say buying it via a credit card gives you more protection and you'll have less hassle overall. Which is the point of my comment. Maybe I'm missing your point though.
