Average Irish wage and cost of living

Having lived in Australia for a time, and having returned to Dublin I've been struck by the high cost of living.
I'M considering heading off again to work, and it got me thinking of the minimum you'd have to be earning per anum to get by in Dublin?
I saw 17K and 20K mentioned in an earlier thread, is this realistic?
What is the average Irish salary?
To those of you who have lived abroad, how much would you need to live in say London or LA?
How did your experiences and quality of life compare?
Are there any sites on the net which can direct me average incomes in Ireland?

cost of living in london is probably around the same as cost of living in dublin, but i find that the salaries are a lot higher in london.

i dont believe 17k is realistic at all. not even for a single person in their early twenties.
i would double that, at least.

Agree with whitewashman you would need to be earning 30k just to rent a room and have a few beers at the weekend.

Being single is one thing, married with kids, house, cars etc is another. I live in the states myself, wife, son, house, two nice cars. To have a similar lifestyle in Dublin I would have to be making well into a 6 figure salary which just isn't realistic and most likely will never happen. I was living in Dublin 6 years ago or so when I left Ireland, I was making 17k pounds at the time and found it a struggle as I had a car on the road as well and I was renting a tiny dingy room.

    From what little I know...

17K in Dublin is the bare minimum no-experince starter pack.

17K is 322 a week before tax, after tax, I don't know. In the outer Dublin region (suburbs), rent would be about 70 - 90 a week, to share a room in a house.
This leaves about 200 to live on for the week, with about 60 or so going towards food.

Depending on what your qualified in, what languages you know, and your experience, all will help that pay packet go up to about 20K, or more, depending on skills, etc.
