Keyboard Problems

I just bought pc off my bro but for some reason some of the keys aren't working, for example F11,F12, the back-space key and the return key underneath. I checked the keybaord language settings under control panel and found that it was set to United States so I tried to change it to Irish.

Then it asked me to insert my Windows 98 SE disc, which neither I, nor my bro have.

Does anyone know where I can download the Irish setting for my keyboard? or another way to fix this problem?

    thanks alot.

see if the install files are under c:\windows\options\cabs
or c:\win98\cabs or similar, quite often the installation files are copied in there for occasions such as this, search for a cabs folder, maybe.

The keyboard is probably damaged, all it takes is for some liquid to get in behind the keys and you can be unlucky, I have ruined one keyboard by spilling a glass of wine into it and another with irn bru.

I agree - the keyboard is almost certainly damaged. The position of F11, F12, backspace and return are not country dependent so modifying the country settings won't help.

FWIW - I bought a new keyboard a couple of weeks ago from Komplett for E5.80 I think. Even with shipping, its only E12. You can probably pick one up for E20 in any computer shop.

There could be some dirt trap under the key.

It your brother offent eat infrount of computer this is most like to happen.
Happens to me very offten :D

Use a pen or small screwdriver to pop the key off, clean it then click it back in.
