If you are using windows XP you can right click on the photo and -send to- > mail and when you send it it asks you if you want to reduce the size of the pictures.

If you don't have that option - do you have any programs like Photoshop or Image editor?

    Sorry, not sure about MSPaint.

But if you use the email program to resize the pic you do it like this.
    right click etc
it then shoudl bring you to your email program and a new mail should be there with attachments in it. ? does it do that?
If so then SAVE the email (close window and save as draft).
Then get the mail from the drafts folder on your email program and save the attachments on to your desktop.

This is a real botch job workaround until you find a program on your computer (maybe MS paint does it) that will do this task you need.

You can resize them using Microsoft Office Picture Manager

You could also try downloading paint shop pro - the older versions are free. It has a bit of a learning curve but its a comprehensive image editing proggy.

Incidentally I usually drop my pics down to 25% of their original length and width for mailing.

Usually when you buy a digital camera a basic program for viewing and editing images is included in the box. Eg Olympus cameras come with Olympus Camedia software, Pentax cameras come with ACDsee software etc. You should be able to resize images pretty easily using one of these programs. Just have a look in the menus for the resize function. Reduce the number of pixels to say 50% or 25% of the original number of pixels. Make sure to keep the same aspect ratio i.e. if your original image is 1600 x 1200 pixels you could resize it to say 800 x 600 pixels but not 800 x 800 otherwise you'll get a distorted image! Oh and remember to "save as" your reduced images and give them new filenames so that you can keep the full size originals without overwriting them
