    hey.
me and my friends were have an intellectual(yeah right!) discussion on which is better the simpsons or family guy. what do all of ye think?

family guy quote; (looking at guy with wooden stumps for arms and legs) "so whats your deal?accident?"
    "no........me father was a tree!!"

simpsons quote; "hmmmm...they've got the internet on computers now."

the simpsons is obviously a classic but family guy has stewy and the gang. i think that family guy is stupider and you laugh more but the simsons will last for years to come, which i dont think family guy will. whats your opinion??

    Golden gal ;)

the old simpsons before 2000 pooped on anything that came it's way.

if it's the episodes after 2000 then family guy is the winner

Family Guy ..... although I'll always think of the Simpsons as my first love

Cremo's right about the Simpsons pre 2000. Absolutely genius, and while the stuff of late hasn't been too bad, Family Guy is definitely funnier at this point in time.

just to add pre 2000 the simpsons weren't trying to be funny, well not like they are now.

pre 2000 homer's humour was so funny it was unreal and they were pure subtle in bringing out his humour. Now post 2000 it's totally different, they've turned him into an unfunny non-humorous character.

it's probably not their fault and i think south park got it right with the episode
    "the simpsons already did it!"

i also think since there is a lot more adult cartoon humour around these days
south park family guy futurama south park, that they are trying to hard to be funny and to bring back the audience that left when the new shows popped up.

The Simpsons, the humour in it is a lot more subtle and rewarding on repeat viewings

honestly the simpsons have recently trying to be more family guyish, but it doesnt have the panash that family guy has, but again i still prefer the old simpsons.

one line i heard in a new simpsons was amazing

M.B :: "it seems that caterpiller has emerged from a cacoon as a shark with a gun for its mouth"

it made me cry :D GENIUS

I'd still have to go with the simpsons. It covers a wider range of humour, whereas from what i've seen Family guys strongest humour base seems to be sarcasm. In saying that though, i've not seen that much of family. I like it, but don't get a chance to watch it that often, so my vote may be bias.

Yeh I agree totally... Homer's main shtick these days seems to just be getting hurt and making weird noises. Not like back in the day when he could just waltz through stuff and be too ignorant to be hurt (see the episode with Frank Grimes).

Other than that I'd have to say family guy (although im also quite partial to futurama) if we're talking recently or the simpsons if we're talkin vintage

I'd have to say family guy, it's just more mature than the simpsons, but the simpsons are still excellent

Family guy...enough of these threads though. There was about two days ago in "Television"

I much prefer Family Guy myself but what I'm worried about is the fact that there might be a new series starting if my sources are correct. Which means either all the material they've stock piled since being cancelled will be amazing or they will have fallen into the trap of the Simpsons and just continuing on and on and on and on and... well you get the idea!

I might have said the Simposons if I hadn't already seen practically every episode that comes on at least 5 times, so going with Family Guy on this.

the replay value of the simpsons is classic, well on the old ones anyway.

It depends really, some of them are just intolerable (when you can tell which one it is after less than a minute of it beginning, you know it's bad) but some can be alright. I mean, if it's a genuinely good episode (chili pepper episode - best one ever), you'll want to see it again. But some of the jokes, they just get old. Especially with people quoting them often. Sort of like the stunts in the matrix...

The Simpsons of course. Without it there wouldn't be any Family Guy. And FG stole some elements from the Simpsons too.
