    hey guys,

I'm runnung mandrake 10 (free downloadable version) and i have a number of problems.
I'm trying to install nautilus 2.8.2 and i've downloaded eel 2.8.2 because i'm running a faulty version of 2.4.2 (keep getting segmentation fault when i boot up)

when i ./configure eel i get a number of *.pc packages are missing...

this is doing my head in. I've also no first hand experience installing stuff so i'm at a loss.

Also, should the source code for the linux kernel be on the cd's? if so where? i can find a way of searching the cd's. i need it for lirc.

edited to make it more readable

I find to install software on Mandrake easily enough is to use urpmi.
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ -- To set it up

    and a quick how to -- http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/eggnbacon/docs/urpmi-howto/tools.html

So you'd open a command line and login as root then type
    urpmi nautilus

    it should solve dependencies too.
    Hope this helps.

[edit] if you have a faulty kernel when you boot up insert your Mandrake cd I think iirc it gives you and option to repair ?
As for the kernel sources I think it has the 2.6 but not 2.4 google for the 2.4 sources on the net i found them before. Try looking on RPM sites ;)

yeah, urpmi gail and urpmi gail-devel would be the frist place to start.
Or urpmi nautilus if you're feeling especially lazy ;)

    or even better, urpmi apt-get

Doesn't apt-get for mandrake just invoke urpmi?
