Well worth the money. I have the 256mb version. Suits me perfectly.
What exactly are you looking for in a player? Portability? Features? Battery life?

You could have posted on the Computer forum I suppose.

nothing much just general mp3 playing, not interested in ipod or anything, just something fairly cheap thats light has half decent space on it and the db level is good. Does your one play very dull and quiet ? Is the volume any good on it ?

    Thanks

Yeah prob better on the computer forum, but my friend has one of those and it seems pretty good. Small too.

I have the creative zen touch which I find really good and I have used most of the big hitters, ipod iriver etc. If you looking to store alot of music I'd advise the zen touch, but the Muvo is a good deal.

Dont be stupid, its got feck all memory and is a dodgy make !!!!!!

Get a Creative Zen NX like mine, loads of memory, removable battery which is important (see Ipods) and available for 100 more than that piece of crap !!!!!!

It's Creative - same as your Zen NX... ?

If you only need summat that can hold some tracks, easy and small and good for on the go then I'd say get it (it's very small, and handy as a USB stick). If you keep it in your pocket/bag most of the time anyway and don't use it for exercising or anything, I'd say get a HD-based player. They're both good in their own ways.

    *tut*

Cheers Koneko, its going to be pretty much for as you say, just having in my pocket plus its going backpacking around the world with me so it has to be light and not something i am going to loose sleep over if its misplaced or it becomes another beer soaked destroyed statistic.............

Zen = Heavy whore, just about pocket size.
MuVo = Same size as a lighter and about as heavy as two of them.

The only thing I will say about the Muvo though is it could do with being a tiny be louder.

Interesting, some people had mentioned that some mp3 players etc are very low in decibels level ???? Would it drown out background noise or is it really too low, any advice on this I would appreciate it ?

I've personally had two bad experiences with the Zen (one dead hard-drive and one broken headphone socket) so I wouldn't recommend them. If you don't want to go for the bigger players like the iPod or iRiver, I'd recommend the Muvo or the Rio Karma.

Yeh i have an XCLEF HD500 which is a hard drive based player. Recently ive had some problems with it but ive got it fixed cos its basically botched together from bits you can buy from most computer shops.

Its got 20gb (which can be upgraded by buying any 2.5" hdd so you can have up to 137gb) but ive never really filled up the 20gigs.

If all you need it for is like a normal walkman then theres no point in buying a huge capacity mp3 player cos you can just transfer to and from it whatever music you feel like that day.

Big capacity players are kind of more for backing up your whole cd collection (or with the ipods, a fashion accessory)

It would leave in abit of background noise....

Actually, now I think about it I once used someone elses (non creative) earphones in it and it was really loud. So if you buy it and find it too low, look into buying another pair of earbud headphones. The other ones I used were are crappy Philips pair that came with a 4 year old walkman, so they don't have to be great quality.

If your going to be bringing it with you travelling, I recommend going for a hd based mp3 player, ipod/iriver/creative zen.

As i'v said I've used them all and I found the zen touch the best, hence I bought it but the're all pretty good. A removable battery is a plus as ipod's have to be sent back ot apple to have a new batttery installed (pain in the ar$e)

Personal preferance but you should check out :

    www.advancedmp3players.co.uk

some good reviews there and give the spec in detail and some nice close up shots of all the players.

If you want a big player, I have a Rio Karma and it's good but not as good as the Iriver HP120 that a friend has and can now be bought for the same price.

As for flash players, this one blows the Muvo (which is cheap, cheerful and probably not very long-lasting) out of the water -> http://www.iriver.com/product/info.asp?p_name=iFP-1090

Definitely invest in some decent earplugs/headphones. They make a big difference.

In my experience, despite their ranting and raving, the Apple / Creative headphones you get with players are dire.

cheers for the advice, I won't impulse buy just yet but i think the MuVo would do the job for me. I have a tendancy to loose and break things very easily. 512mb would be more than enough for my extensive.... sorry i mean minimal cd collection........ its very minimal !!!!

Creatives now are much better than they used to be. I had a Zen NX and it broke(my fault), I then got it replaced by a Zen Xtra. Which i found out after it broke that it was not my fault and that they have recalled all the models. i am now on a Zen Touch which is bloody marvelous except for the small fact that it tends to freaze after being charged. The MuVo is very nice though and the radio is a handy touch. For The Touch you need to buy the remote which is tres expensive

Just to mention as an alternative, a minidisc player with mp3 capability. Far better sound quality and a lot more robust especially if you get a sports model. Normal minidiscs can hold about 5-6 hours of high quality audio and they are very easy on batteries.

I have a Sony MD-Z1. It takes 1 AA battery which lasts 40+ hours at close to top volume constantly. I can drop it from head height with no ill effects, and it's splash proof to avoid those beer spillages. It's downside is it is a fair bit bulkier than the MuVo and transferring files is a little more time consuming but IMO it's worth it for the sound quality and robustness. Minidiscs are cheaper than flash memory (for now). The player itself cost me about €140 2 years ago and has paid for itself in terms of enjoyment and reliability.

If you want earphones that envelop you in the sound, take a look at the Philips here: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=109260&clickfrom=name

    They're 25 euro well spent.

PS: they actually supply you with a cooler looking white/grey pair that look kinda like ipods.

They actually go into your ear canal like earbuds for blocking external sound, and they really work. In-line volume control also.

For not much more you can get a 4gb muvo2
    - €210 on Komplett
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=122953&cks=SPK

    A Zen Touch(20gb) is €253 on komplett
    A Zen micro(5gb) is €255 on Komplett.

Any of these would be a better purchase than the 512mb Muvo, though if you want something light stay away from the 20gb touch, as it is considerably heavier than its smaller counter-parts.

As regards having a small collection, I have a 20GB Zen Jukebox (the first gen zen with firewire and usb 1.1), and only have about a quarter of it full.

Echoing "Jim...'s" comment, ditch the included headphones and buy anything else. The ones I'm using only cost €12 in argos and far out perform the supplied ones.
