No wonder some doctors have serious ego issues

We were in a lecture with 1st year med students today, where the lecturer (vice-dean of the college) was teaching stuff about heart/ECGs etc. Neways I was pretty shocked to hear her saying that ECG technicians were only "trained monkeys" and that med students with their "superior skills", more important than "ordinary lay ppl" could step in to get real worth from the ECGs. Despite being extremely rude, I was amazed at the attitude she was instilling into the meds with regard to a healthcare team they have to work with for benefit of patient! Yes, doctors have more training than an ECG tech but they'd be lost without them. As for even acknowledging presence of pharmacy or physio students at the lecture, not a hope.

we meet again angel :D yeah, i've heard stories akin to that which you've just told, its really quite sickening to hear, nobody seems to believe all people are created equal anymore.... and if the lecturer was really that derrogatory towards the techs i'd love to see a formal complaint filed on her, people get away with far too much sometimes...

reminds me of the great movie that is patch adams though... :D

It explains a lot! I hope the other lecturers aren't like that. The students will have a real problem when they actually get to work in hospitals and find that the nurses and other healthcare professionals have to teach them an awful lot of practical work before they can really practice medicine properly.

When I worked on an ICU there were many patients who would have died if the nurses hadn't been running the show. When the junior docs ignored our advice it was often very serious - even fatal on one occasion.

Doctors are NOT gods. They are highly trained practitioners of medicine/surgery, but could not do their jobs without the support of the other professionals they work with.

Most professions are tacitly taught professional snobbery in college, professional bodies wouldn't exist without it.

Just drop hints how some lecturers (sic) get full of themselves now that they don't have real jobs in the real world anymore.

Also find a cardiac EMT and get them to apply the logic of this card, any time the lecturer (sic) says anything derogatory "CLEAR".

Sad how pathetic people seem to justify their existence in the academic ladder.
Worked with lecturers for 4 years .
I was just as highly qualified but the amount of crap they spoke was amazing.
