    Hi,

I am thinking about getting a new laptop and I have been browsing the Dell website. I have it narrowed down to 2 machines :

    Inspiron 8600

    or the

    Inspiron 9100

In both cases I have to pay for an upgrade to a 128 graphics card and also to get the DVD/RW. However my question is in relation to the processors

Which of these processors is better :

    Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology (3.00 GHz) + 15.4" UltraSharp™ WXGA (9100)

    Intel® Pentium® M 725 (1.6 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB) 15.4" WXGA LCD Screen (8600).

the pentium M will give u better battery life, and will most likely be lighter, but the P4 would be better performance.

    Thanks for your comments.

doodle_sketch : As Jammer said it's the way it was on the web-site (I know it's not relevant!).

Have another question. If I wanted to use my mobile (has infrared and bluetooth) to connect the laptop to the internet do I have to buy the extra bluetooth accessory that is available with these machines??

In addition the 9600 comes with a 12 cell battery whereas the 8600 has a 9 cell.

You'd prob still get more battery life from the 8600.
I always prefer Mobile processors, unless ofc your planning it as a desktop-replacement machine [i.e. plugged in all the time...].

I was in the same boat as u, and i went with the 9100, i just thought about it and realised i'd be beside a plug whenever i was using it so battery life was irrelevent.

I got the 128mb 9700 in it, and it plays games as good as my desktop (spec below).

I got the UXGA screen...its excellent deffinately worth the extra (think it was 120), 1920 x 1200...mmmmmmm

The 9100 has built in Infra Red. Dunno about the 8600.
