its a nice way to start it all off with broad titles, however what about something like a poem or song or a sentance from something or just a word and see how everyone interprets it in their own way.just a suggestion. :D

It great to see this taking shape, well done all concerned!

Just wondering what format it'll take? In other words:
    • How will it be judged? Voting by public?
    • If so, where will upload happen?
    • What restrictions will be set on file size, physical size etc?

Thinks it would be a good idea to have the bases covered off before we start.

files size should be below 100k and maybe a dimesion no bigger on all sides of 400 px
this will make for an easy upload.

voting should be by the public and if this takes off then voting by members (dunno how we can do this though)

there are plenty of free picture hosting sites http://www.imagestation.com/ is quite good, just post pictures for the duration of voting and then remove and replace with the next submission!!!

I think the simpliest would be for each participant to post their submission in one new thread and then we could use the "Rate This Thread" feature?
After a while we can have a poll with the 5 or 10 photos with the best rates?

    Edit:
Forgot to add that the title of the thread should be something like "November Challenge: Title of the photo".
Also, I am assuming that the photo would be shot for the challenge and not years ago!

I'm with RaphaelS, however we can’t have everyone taking up the Art/anim/photo with comp entries. I would suggest that someone approach the mods with a request to set up a sub forum off of this one call “photo comp”. Each month we post of entries and then the public vote. Once the comp is over the forum is wiped, or a new one is started and the old one archived. Little bit of an admin overhead but is would seem to me its better that just placing all entries into this forum.

There's no need to set up a sub forum.

Simply start a thread announcing the topic and giving the details for the challenge.
Anyone that wants to enter the challenge then posts a link to their pic.

Once the time for entries has passed, then another thread can be started with all the entries in it.
People can reply to this thread.
Limit it to one reply per person, every one must rate all the pics and leave a comment on the favourite pic.

This will give everyone an equal chance to get their picture seen.
It won't clog up the board.
It won't allow it to turn into a popularity contest, as people will have to do more than just rate a friends thread.
If people are putting effort into taking the pics then they deserve some effort from those that wish to rate them, i think it's a small price to pay.

I'd suggest that file size should be below 200k and max width or length be 800 pixels. Anything smaller degrades quality significantly and makes it difficult to judge sharpness and focus.

This a a pic of mine were the max size is 640 in any side and a max of 60 or 100k (can not remember) i think the quality is very good ?

800 is a tad too big also it may be better to view the whole picture on one screen rather then scrolling which they may also lose the overall effect?

    Edit for a new link

Link takes me to a log in page.

    I don't think 800 is overly big.
You don't want to limit people too much.
And i think the 200k filesize is fine as well.

yeah i think 100k is a bit on the small side...

    would 800 cause scrolling? I 640 wouldn't be bad

I like that idea... Very open to individual interpretation

[edit] I think water would be a good topic to start on. God knows theres enough of the stuff around at the moment! ;) [/edit]

    HI,

Like the sound of Night Shots but anything would be good.

so it's just one photo per person?

    Cheers

Is this kicking off tomorrow then, presumably with 'water' as the subject? Surely something can be put together without a dedicated forum. Someone should decide on rules such as the amount of entries allowed, whether manipulation should be stated or not, etc.

EDIT: didn't notice that 'night shots' now has the same amount of votes as water.

Looks like it's night shots then :)

OK "night Shots" wins the first round.

Please refer to Night Shots Thread

Would it be useful to have poll on the topics for the next one now, while the first is still running? It would cut down the turnaround time before starting the second.

was looking for a pic to enter the competition and also saw I had taken these thought it might be appropriate for "photography" at night :)
