I'm wondering if anyone knows of any kind of course that would give me some kind of recognised qualification to work with Photoshop.

Is there even such a thing?

    I mean airbrushing, retouching etc.
    But as a profession.

I don't think i'm after a graphic design course, as i don't think i'm creative enough in a traditional art sense.

Or maybe i would be able to do graphic design.

For example, i'd be into working with someone's design and getting it into a digital format.
Something where i don't have to design from scratch, but would have input along the way and would produce the final digital image.
So it'd be something that would teach the techniques involved etc.

I hope i'm making sense here.

Anyone working in this kind of area, but not coming from a traditional art background?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Killian

well maybe we can help you define what you want?

do you mean like a short/evening course or a course.. course?

i don't think there is such a thing out there really,

there maybe some advanced photoshop eveing/day course in Dun Laoghaire or Ballyfermot of somewhere, but i don't they'd get you much beyond where I presume you are...

you want to do something creative with design but you dont think you are an artist?

hmmm advertising? courses perhaps, or im not on your wavelenght

Are you or have you done this course?
Can you shed a bit more light on what's involved in it?

I did 2 years of Graphic Design in CIT.. don't think it's what u are looking for. 1st yr involved a lot of drawing and design using various media types.. and 2nd year focused more on adapting designs done in studio to Illustrator/Photoshop. It involved a lot of print work too with Quark. tbh it was badly run when I did it.. well the lecturers didn't exactly give tutorials in the design programmes.. it was more trial and error on our behalf and photocopies out of the manuals handed out..

not sure if this reply helps at all really!!! if u wanna ask me any questions though fire away ;)

The second year of that course seems to be along the lines of what i'd like to do.
I'm no artist, i can't draw on paper to save my life.
So ideally it'd be something that skipped past the drawing part and got right into the digital end of things.
I wouldn't mind doing publishing stuff either.
But i know what you mean about courses being poorly run.
You'd almost be as well off teaching yourself, then going to some of them especially if all they do is hand out photocopied crap.
It's one thing to be spoon fed, but it's another to be left almost to your own devices.

    Ta, for that.
It's not exactly what i'd be after.
I wouldn't have too much of an interest in video production or sound.
But i will check out FAS for any other courses they might have. :)

eveyone can... i don't think you'll be able to skip the drawing part or you should... to find an art course that you think you (me,everyone) are suitable for is difficult

Ok, i can draw a little.
Though i still think i'm crap.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get a grounding in the basics.
Even if i can't put it into practice with a pencil and paper.
