    Hi,
    I bought a new laptop 2 months ago(2.8 gh intel chip).Its pretty fast but want more power so was just wondering can I open up the back in order to load more ram as i have only 184 mb and want to upgrade that by at least 256 or 512 mb.Peats are out of stock of the 512 at the moment.Any other cheap supplier in dublin city center other than peats?.Has anyone here installed more ram on their laptop as i have only ever before on a pc.Thanx

    It should be as simple as that and you will be looking for a SODIMM

    Not really Dublin city as you asked for but i found shop4memory.com
    very good when i upgraded my presario. They have a handy memory configurator thingy that is handy for findin memory thats right for your laptop. They mailed me a sds number to track the parcel too. I thought that was cool. "Your package is now in Lucan......." kinda thing when ya go to the link :D

    for some odd reason even though i have 256 mb of ram, when i check the properties in the control panel it says i have only 180 mb ram.Could this have something to do with the virual memory as im consently getting increase your virtual memory error messages.Anyways would getting another 256mb resolve this problem.

    Sounds like ur memory is split with your graphics card

    Start->run->

    type in dxdiag and it'll show ya the config

    Laptop memory is usualy not the same as PC memory (I've heard some of the meridian systems sold by Aldi/lidl can take ddr modules) Peats don't keep a stock of laptop memory, they just go to their suppliers and get a quote as each customer comes in as laptop memory can vary.

    http://www.shop4memory.com have a laptop section with a configurator that should show you the right module for you laptop and they seem farily cheap, I don't know if anywhere else in town do laptop memory besides peats, anyone?

    How hard to install depends on the laptop and who make it. For some it's just a flap you unscrew on the bottom and then you stick the module in, some you have to remove the keyboard.
