New System Spec Help

Hey, I’d appreciate some advice on a new system I’m about to build. Here’s what I’m thinking about so far:

    Motherboard: Abit AG8-3rd Eye Mainboard for S775 I915P,SATA,ATX,GbLAN,Dual-DDR,PCI-Ex16 €145.99

    Processor: Intel Pentium 4 530 3.0 GHz Boxed Socket LGA775, 1MB cache - €187.01

    Graphics Card:Sapphire Radeon X600XT 128MB DDR PCI Express, VIVO/DVI-I, Retail - €149

    Memory:TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack Kit w/two matched PC3200 DDR DIMMs €166

I’ve already got an NEC-2500a DVD-R/W, Samsung 160GB SP1614C 8MB hard drive, DVD-Drive, ViewSonic VP171s monitor and Antec Sonata case.

It’s mainly going to be used for word processing, internet browsing, watching/burning DVDs and maybe some gaming (gaming definitely isn’t a priority). I need to get a copy of Windows XP too, preferably very, very, very cheap and probably a copy of Linux too for some college work. My budget’s €700 for the motherboard, processor, graphics card, memory and OS. That’s my*absolute limit* - I’d like to keep it as close to €600 as possible.

I’m probably going to try to stick to Komplett to buy all the stuff, since it works out slightly cheaper than JES and is (supposedly) much faster.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

If you are not bothered about gaming then you are setting your sights too high with those specs!! Thats more a gaming rig than a word processor :D Aim lower and cheaper!
Any old PC can do word processing, internet browsing, watching/burning DVDs! So dont waste money unless you have to

I don't think it would work out cheaper than jes if you compare the prices but it would be faster and more convienent if you have a credit card.

Seems a bit overkill for your needs unless your going to be encoding. The graphics card isn't great but like you said your not big into gaming so it's fine.

    Good choices all round really.

I eventually ended up going for:

    Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro (LGA775) Motherboard (MB-021-GI)

    Intel Pentium 4 530 "LGA775 Prescott" 3.0GHz (800FSB) with HT Technology - Retail (CP-057-IN)

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition - OEM (OS-001-MS)

    Leadtek WinFast PCX6600GT-TDH GeForce PCX6600 GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-045-LT)

Akasa AK-TK-01 Cable Tidy Kit (CM-003-AK)

    GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5

I know it probably seems like overkill, but I managed to get 17.5% off, plus I'm starting to get more into games. Apparently the 6800gt kicks the x600xt's ass in just about everything. Anyway, I can't justify it anymore, I just wanted it!
