    How old is the monitor?
    What type is it?
    Have you changed drivers?

Have you tried doing a degauss(think thats how it spelt). You have to go into the monitor setup( the button physically on the Monitor) and it should be one of the options there.

If its a driver problem (which i dont think it is unless the monitor is ancient)
    get it here

yea, the colours are all blurry then turn power off and then back on and its grand!! it wont work if i just hit the reset button, the power has to be turned off!

when you say turn the power off do you mean on the monitor???? Have you tried simply turning off the monitor and turning it back on?
Also have you tried in safe mode or from the bios screen as that rules out driver problems. If its driver related maybe its the refresh rate. change to 75hz

Try a lower resolution, start - run - edit
then press ALT+Enter to make it full screen (ALT-X to exit BTW:)

if it is still blury then it's probably the monitor,
turn down brightness/contrast if it gets clearer then monitor adjustments may sort it out, only if the monitor has a Focus/Brightness control on the back. (some better monitors may have it in the onscreen menu)

    [edit]

Or if reducing the brightness sharpens the focus live with it :)

try goin to dispay propertys advanced settings set resolution refresh rate to 50 or 60 megahertzh see if theres any improvements ,download driver for your monitor if windows is just seeing it as a standard plug and play monitor check model no refresh rate at rear of monitor on label, most older monitors only work at 50 or 60megahertzh go to add hardware control panel if its working ok at 60 megahertzh then leave it as it is.unfortunately windows allows u to set a 60meg monitor at 75megahertzh which is not good for ur monitor, right click screen to get acess to dispay propertys advanced settings, windows may have lost or not loaded correct driver for ur monitor, u cud try controlpanel hardware detect alll devices and it might detect the monitor.plug and play should work ok at 60hertzh. try switch off pc, switchon monitor press degauss switch on monitor settings .try onboard dispay on pc if there is 1,enable in bios.

@gamer: Do you have a SHIFT ot CAPS key on your keyboard ? Your posts are very difficult to read typed like that. Also I think the refresh rates you mention are in Hertz - Hz not megahertz MHz.

@Capt'n Midnight: I don't think it's a good idea to suggest to someone to start fiddling around inside their monitor. Also telling someone that the EHT voltage is more dangerous than the mains supply is misleading. It's correct to say it's the current that causes the damage but the current capability of the EHT is far less than that of the mains supply do to it's high impedance source. Also as it's at over 30KHz it is subject to the skin effect unlike 50Hz mains which will pass through the organs of the body. Science lesson over ! ;)

What's the original posters definition of Blurry? I've had people describe their monitor as blurry when it's in Safe Mode with huge icons at 16 colours, restarting the lot may invoke the loading of the video driver by the OS and harmony is restored. I know the effect some of you mention but usually the tube would be ancient to suffer the slow focus effect and retarting will not cure it - only warm up time. Degaussing won't fix blurry or out of focus pictures. Is it possible to try a substitute monitor by any chance. I don't think modern monitors are overly fussy about refresh rates so long as they're over 60Hz. It's usually the human who complains if it's any lower than 70Hz - with headaches !!

I was having this problem on my computer when Java loaded up so make sure there's not Java running, try booting in safe mode. I fixed it by lowering my graphics card settings to 2x instead of 2xQ(Nvidia 5700 ultra).

    only warm up time.
Edited in case anyone took up the Warning about ExtraHigh Voltage the wrong way. "Kill"-O-Volts Anyway since the tube is in effect a large capacitor I'd treat it as DC, and if the bleed resistor was faulty it could be lethal hours after being turned off.

RE: Warm up time, you're not wrong there, :)
allow half an hour for the monitor to warm up beforehand.
Forgot about all the external junk too... Switch off any fluorescent lights, turn off any nearby monitors and move any loudspeakers and similar away from the screen - these affect the colour and shimmer/stability of the picture , unlikely to be the cause but you never know. As anyone who has had their mobile ring beside a monitor will know, outside stuff can affect the picture.

Remember something about that there used to be different monitor adjustments for use in the Southern Hemisphere...

I wouldn't advise any nonprofessional to open monitor its too dangerous hivoltages present. You can buy 15inch monitor secondhand cheap from electronics-recycling.ie finglas Dublin, 63euro approx refresh rate 60kz 1024x768 resolution with receipt working perfectly,i,m a very bad typist but i think its better to help someone out if u can give practical advice than to ignore them,if u have older monitor you may need to use 800x600 resolution at 60hz refresh rate to get perfect display ,your display card is probably much faster than your monitor ,check refresh rate on monitor label at rear, and go to dispay settings advanced to set it to match monitor to graphics card, you will get higher frame rate at that resolution. My advice is do not go ABOVE 1024 x768 resolution if your monitor is more than 2 years old.Download graphics driver for your monitor and windows os , if the monitor name is not listed in display propertys/advanced.It may be listed as plug and play monitor. You may need to switch off vsync and antialiasing to get fast frame rate in games or av dvd playback.Every monitor i have used on my pc has been 50/60hz max and i have never got headaches, but i intend to upgrade in soon. The most important thing is to set up correct refresh rate in display settings to match monitor rate.
