Unfortunately it was a very bad day for the Irish in final qualifying:

    Joe Delaney 2-5 Mark Selby
    Fergal O'Brien 2-5 Mike Dunn
    Patrick Wallace 4-5 Bjorn Haneever
    Michael Judge 3-5 David Roe

While Joe did well to get that far and was a bit unlucky with the draw, the other 3 must be very disappointed to lose to that opposition.

A pity about the amount of Irish qualifying alright, but at least Ken had a decent win yesterday beating Quinten Hann:

    Yesterdays results:

    D Henry Sco 5-4 M Davis Eng
    R Milkins Eng 5-3 D Roe Eng
    G Greene NI 1-5 S Bingham Eng
    B Pinches Eng 5-2 N Bond Eng
    P Ebdon Eng 3-5 B Hawkins Eng
    A McManus Sco 2-5 A Carter Eng
J White Eng 1-5 JH Ding Chn
    K Doherty Ire 5-1 Q Hann Aus
    R O'Sullivan Eng 5-2 J Parrott Eng
    S Lee Eng 5-4 M King Eng
    M Fu HK 2-5 A Hicks Eng
    M Stevens Wal 0-5 S Maguire Sco

Matt Stevens's 5-0 drubbing was not really expected or 17 year old Ding Junhui walloping Jimmy White 5-1.

    Wednesday order of play

    2pm start:
    M Williams Wal v J Jogia Eng
    P Hunter Eng v S Murphy Eng
    D Gray Eng v B Pinches Eng
    C Small Sco v A Hamilton Eng

    7pm start:
    S Hendry Sco v R Milkins Eng
    S Davis Eng v S Bingham Eng
    G Dott Sco v M Holt Eng
    J Higgins Sco v D Henry Sco

It's a pity I can't get Eurosport to see any of it. :(

    R O'Sullivan Eng 5-0 S Lee Eng
    S Maguire Sco 5-2 D Junhui Chn

Yeah, I seen that, pity he couldn't close the match out. :(

Good win for Ronnie & another early exit for Williams.

John Higgins said after his match last night that if his wife were to go into labour during the week he'd forfeit straight away. It was the same thing when his first son was born a couple of days after John winning the British Open in 2001. Maybe it's an omen that he'll win the tourney again. :D

Ken would want to start putting a run or two together or he'll be in big danger of losing his top 16 place.

Hard to see the Rocket being beaten at the mo, though young Stephen Maguire seems to be progressing into a real talent.

    Yesterdays quarter's Results:

    R O'SULLIVAN Eng 5-1 A HICKS Eng
    79-14 (67) 63-29 1-89 (76) 77-63 (O'Sullivan 52, Hicks 63) 83-11 (79) 60-44

    A HAMILTON Eng 0-5 S MAGUIRE Sco
    47-55 74-75 (Hamilton 74) 7-113 (113) 0-100 (100) 23-111 (104)

    S HENDRY Sco 2-5 J HIGGINS Sco
    19-64 7-60 7-60 67-0 (66) 68-41 (58) 0-85 (85) 0-89 (79)

    B HAWKINS Eng 3-5 S MURPHY Eng
    72-20 25-101 (99) 9-73 (64) 0-127 (115) 26-65 59-49 79-16 49-75 (75)

O'Sullivan breesed through, likewise Maguire. The Higgins vs Hendry match was almost just a battle of who would make the least errors. :-/

    Todays semi's (best of 11 frames) :

    J HIGGINS Sco v S MURPHY Eng (2pm)

    R O'SULLIVAN Eng v S MAGUIRE Sco (6.30pm)

Smart money will have it as yet another Higgins vs O'Sullivan final, but Steven Maguire has been in top form lately, who knows? Ronnie has to lose some time, Murphy could pull off a shock too, Higgins is still nowhere near top form.

Indeed, I'm delighted for him & it's the first time he's shown some top form in a couple of years. :)

The win puts him back up to 4th in the provisonal rankings.
