all this week ive been getting an annoying clicking sound from the front of my pc which happens fairly regular, usually when i launch a program or opan a window, sounds like its coming from the hard drive, just to give you some back story, about 3 weeks ago i had a 2year old approx 80gb 5400rmp maxtor drive die on me (took some serious usage), so i had to resort to using a 4 month old 40gb 7200rpm maxtor which i was using as a slave at the time and set it as a master, up untill that point i was hardly used compared with the 80gb. any once got any advice or suggestions as to why its making this noise if it is the drive as i have reseated the cables and checkes it wasnt a loose cable hitting off the fan

i have checked the status of the disc using speedfan and all looks well and temps are normal, compared to the dead 80 which was reported very badly in speed fan b4 it gave up the ghost on me.

Clicking is usually a faulty hard disk, but could also be just a noisy HD, especially with older HD's

You might want to make a backup of you data just incase you hd is failing.
