anyone ever used one of these..? are they really that good and is the annoyance factor from not being able to use a battery worth the difference from a regular MXR distortion+? does anywhere in dublin carry them..? can anyone reccomend a similarly amazing distortion pedal?

no takers? what about other distortion pedal reccomendations?
should i be looking for an expensive valve distortion pedal instead ? (i'm going through a 70s marshall valve amp)

Meh, not a big pedal fan tbh. What's wrong with the amp?

Edit -> Maybe have a look at the Line 6 Distortion Modeller?

Valve amp distortion is the way forward. The only time I'd recommend using a pedal is for doing leads, and you want the extra few decibels to jump out from the other guitar.

Thats if there are two guitars

my amp unfortunatly doesn't have anywhere near enough overdrive power for the kind of music we're playing.. you can get valve distortion pedals though, right..?

yeah theres a mesa boogie valve pedal. OR you could get one of the new RAT pedals that has all the Rats in it. ive been looking for one for a while.
    Easpa Mesa yeah?

Normally I'd agree with you that tube is the way forward, but not in a pedal. Tube pedals don't sound as good as a tube amp. Try the Line 6 stuff, I was stunned by how good it actually is. I was put off by the whole digital thing initially until I actually listened to it.

Pedals work well with a tube amp if you use them as an input gain booster

I'm gonna disagree with you there. I listened to the Uber Metal video on the Line 6 site and I think it sounds terrible.

    How dare you! ;)

Nah, get a go of it yourself and toy around, the Line 6 folks know what they're doing. Default settings always suck balls.

Hmm, so Peavey Bandit II or a Line 6 Spider 2 210? You must CHOOSE!

You can check through my posts, I've recommended Peavey many, many times, but nobody listens. Gimme amp distortion anyday. But when it comes to pedals there is a distinct lack of real quality compared to quantity. I think the Line 6 folk are better than most, but it is all down to personal preference at the end of the day.

yeah the peavey solid state amps have a nice distortion. I was very impressed with them :)

The bandits are excellent too. Peavey are well worth it.
