Digital Camera for travelling

Need a new Digi Camera for a year travelling. I have an Olympus C-960 ZOOM. But it's to bulky and the flash is buggered.

I suspect I'll be taking a diverse range of photos, in various conditions
    - Out on the p1ss
    - Landscapes
    - Portraits
    - rain/sun/on rivers.

First off it'll have to use one of the following memory types:
Support Compact Flash, (Type 1 and 2), Smart Media, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick, or Multi Media Card (MMC)

So I can copy photos to my IPod. It'll have to be light and slim enough to take it out on a night boozing with me.
Need to take 4 AA batteries aswell, so if I run out of charge I can slip some normal AA in.
I'm not too worried about any extras, as long as it does the job.

I'm gonna head into town and try some of the stores listed in the stickies aswell,
    All advice greatly appreciated,
    Mick

some one suggested this when i wasa looking for a sturdy digi camera(well they don't exist but)

The Pentax Optio 33WR and 43WR are two sturdy little cameras which are water and dust resistant. I have the 43WR and would recommend it.
-Picture quality is about average for a 4 mp camera
-It has an excellent movie mode (640x480 @30 fps with sound until memory card is full)
-It has an excellent macro mode (can take pics as close as 1 cm IIRC)
-it uses AA batteries and battery life is pretty good

Would reccomend one of the Pentax, I bought the Optio S40 recently for the same purpose as you, travel etc.
As regards to AA batteries it kinda chews through them, Id reccoment stocking up on a few CR-3V's before you head off, they last forever

I would second that, I have a Pentax Optio S4...class camera...so small you can bring it with you all the time...takes excellent quality photos....nothing but utterly satisfied with it....can't think of one negative
