A snippet from the Business Section of the Irish Times to-day makes interesting reading:
Smart Telecom purchased a 10% shareholding in Broadband Communications limited yesterday at a cost of €1m.
    ...
Smart Telecom said it paid €400,000 and isisued 2m Smart Telecom Shares to the shareholders of Broadband Communications for the deal. It said it had taken control of the firm and installed its own nominees on its board.

Does this mean Smart will make a strong push into the BB market ? It has stated its intent to unbundle lines from Eircom, and if it uses this to set its own standards for line testing it could mean more people have access to BB than under the stringent Eircom tests. It could also lead to the introduction of new range of packages for the consumer.
