My pc wont turn on. When i turn on the pc i get a loud Beep about every 3 seconds. Before the pc stopped turning on i use to have problems turing on the pc because it nver got passed the bios part at boot up. Just before it broke i noticed that at the bios part of the boot up it told me id a 1.240 ghz amd atlon when it should say 2.1ghz or around that anyway. Might it be that i need a new mother board battery or even a power supply?

there should be a list of all the meanings of the beep patterns for your motherboard. do a google on it or check the manual. For instance my board gave me that kind of beep code for a gfx card missing.

edit. have you tried resetting the bios settings? there should be a jumper setting on the board. again thre manual should help you out.

probably fried your processor somehow...try get your hands on a spare hard drive and see if you can boot from that, if not then its something bios related i guess...

Have you checked your motherboard manual to try to find out what exactly the sequence of beeps means?
If not, make that your first port of call.

    1. No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
    2. One beep - board is working fine
    3. One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
    4. 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
    5. 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
    6. 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
    7. 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
    8. 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
    9. 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
    10. Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly
    11. Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
    12. A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages

Got these from google. I tinks its number 10. I got this beeping noise before and it was because i forgot to put my ram in. But my ram is fine. Im gonna take out all of my ram and put in sum of my mates but it probably wont help. Ive had problems lately starting up the pc after i havent used it for long eg overnight.

Try booting with just one stick of RAM, then try with the other. if one lets you boot and the other dosent then you know which stick if any is faulty.

Well then I guess the best bet would be to reseat the RAM first, if that doesn't work, get some other RAM as you said and try it. Best of luck with it.

Well as soon as i get home from college ill try it. Hopefully thats the problem. Did any of you ever hear of there being problems with the motherboards battery?? I done a bit of googling and that poppep up a few times. I tried to install a graphics card before it wedn turn on. I changed badk to the orginal and i still cant turn it on.

Not that I know too much, but I think problems with motherboard's batteries are fairly few and far between.
The fact that you had problems after you tried to install the graphics card would be telling imho. Perhaps you nudged something out of place by accident?

I think that your chip should be running at 2.1ghz and now its trying to work at 1.21ghz it dont like it so gives you the load one beep. I get this all the time when i oc to high. What you need to do is reset your bios if you dont know where the jumper is, just take out the battery for a few seconds then put it back in "there is only one batter on your motherbaord" this has the same effect. Then try and boot computer again dont worry about the loud beeping that you have been getting i dont think it will do any damage but if its something you have not heard before it can be scary as you dont know whats going on.

Also make sure you have everything pluged in and firmly. Something might look as if its pluged in but not.
Also it could be ram i had ram in slot 3 just of late. And i would get that load beeping noise and no boot up what so ever. Pulled the computer apart to find the problem and all it was, was the ram needed to be put into slot 2 as slot 3 the motherboard did not like it.
