Get yourself a copy of DVDshrink, its a freeware programme so try google it. Alot of films are bigger than 4.7gig so DVDshrink will bring them down to size to fit on a standard size DVD :D

First..You need to get a program like DVD decripter (free) and decript the movie to your hard disk.
Second, you need to transcode the resulting VOB files on your hard disk to fit into one 4.3Gb DVD+r or DVD-r. You will use a program like DVD shrink or better yet, DVD2one.
And lastly, you will need to write your Video-DVD with a program like Nero. :D

all you need is dvd shrink

    copy and shrink the dvd

then use dvd decryptor to burn the image to your blank dvd

    http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

    http://www.dvdshrink.org/

both of these are free and work just as well as anything you will pay for like dvd2one which costs $40

    Clicky linky

Its amazing what "search" finds. Thats my detailed post about the different compressing software available. The not-too-complicated ones.

Well, maybe you are right man but I have seen the quality of compression of DVDshrink and it won't compare to dvd2one. Don't forget..free..doesn't mean always better.. :D
I have tried both and don't want to use DVDshrink ever again.. :D

Personally, I use Shrink all the time. Excellent quality imo. I've asked people to tell me if they think the picture is original or a copy and they can't tell the difference.

I am using www.dvd-cloner.com, works perfectly every time and does the shrinking really well...

a nit off topic but no point starting a new topic,

How long does the process take, taking the dvd and making is smaller i mean,
the burning must take a few hours,?

I've just copied Fahernheit 9/11 with DVD Shrink and i can tell the difference. Haven't used any other copy software so can't comment on them.

It takes about 30 mins in DVD Shrink to copy the files, and about ten to burn the disk

I've noticed using dvd shrink ,that if you leave the subtitles in they'll come on everytime you play back on a DVD player and you have to turn them off.

    Maybe it's just me.

    It's just you ;)

Right click in the video window. There are bunches of options in there, but most importantly, you can turn off subtitles there.

I just use DvD shrink and then use Nero 6 to put it onto a DvD. I dont notice any differince and my brother who complains about everything well his happy with it.

DVD shrink is handy for deleting unwanted stuff (spanish audio, etc), and also is handy for those who are just too lazy to do anything else. Also, putting a 6GB DVD onto a 4.7GB DVD, or course you'll loose a bit of image quality. Your loosing @ least a gig of video!

Disclaimer; Great for wedding's & home movies *cough*

depends on your computer and the size of the orignal dvd a 90 minute movie
    would take about 20 minutes
lotr return of the king which seems to go on forever takes about 45 minutes
if you have a fairly good pc

burning takes the about 10 to 15 minutes at 4x

Burning a full 4.36gb image file at 8x takes just under 10 minutes (9mins 36s).

i have used both as well and if you take a still from both ,dvd2one is slightly better but only slightly
and playing normally it is virtually impossible to see any difference
i also find shrink is quicker

Actually, have you tried the new version of Shrink, i find that if you use Deep Analysis AND the new quality options, you get a better quality output.

But neither DVDShrink or DVD2one compare to DVD-Rebuilder (using CCE) when it comes to anything more than a 20% reduction. It offers by far the best quality output, while still being simple enough to learn how to do in 5 minutes.

There are more complicated methods, that give better quality than DVD-RB, but they really are complicated.
