tft oddity

    I've just bought a new tft monitor from komplett (last weeks special the syncmaster 710v) and i'm not sure if it's faulty or if it's just something in common with tft's (i've only ever used standard crts before). The problem is along the top of the visible screen there's a noticeable bleaching effect not there along the bottom or side edges. This is especially noticeable on dark backgrounds, say video play back on full screen with the black border above and below.

    Obviously it's hard for you to visualise it without seeing it but i'm curious to know if this is a common occurence with flatscreens?

    Yup you're probably right, mainly just trying to convince myself to post my brand new monitor right back off and go through the whole rma process :( .

    Just on a tangent I don't suppose anyone else has a samsung monitor and had trouble using a non "optimum" resolution, it's suggested 1280x1024 is grand for the desktop but for alot of games i'd be using 1024x768, and although it seems to run it fine (no black screen out of range business) it insists on bouncing arround a seriously irritating box saying something like "monitor not at optimum settings" which comes back every five minutes after banishment and eventually blacks out my screen until I close the game. Does anyone know how to disable it, surely a 17inch flatscreen can handle 1024x768 even if it's below it's recomended setting?
