Ads that are so bad they're good...

My number one so bad it's good ad at the moment has to be the animated Lyons' Tea one where one character tries to make conversation with another by going on about the shape of Lyons' tea bags and the other replies in an extreme Cork "I bet you're a wow at parties".

Normally, I hate that Cork accent and that sort of stupid ad but that one cracks me up every time.

(And how ironic that it should be a Cork accent as most Cork people are fanatical about drinking Barry's Tea).

Does anyone else have such reactions to any ads?

theres a new charmin tissue ad that makes me very angry other than that its just those bloody sunny delight ads that were written by someone who thinks it is absolutely simply to fool the public.

*mundane bored voice* " theres some coke, some purple stuff"

*Celebratory tone* " oh holy fuc|<ing jesus its Sunny D This is the best thing ever, oh my god. this is great, mmmmmmm BUY SUNNY D SILLY PEOPLE"

Not all Cork people sound like that, though. (I'm from Cork myself btw).

I believe they use the same ad in England with English accents.

I wonder do they use a Brummie accent there instead of a Cork accent? Anyone know?

The ad I currently hate is the TV licence one... The one where the two women are following the man up the stairs and to the elevator... nattering on about how it is always the little things that go to court, etc. Apparently the idea is that being caught without a TV licence for a TV on a business premises is soooooo embarrassing. I can't imagine it being nearly as embarrassing as that dumb ad.

Also, Heiniken ads are usually pretty awful.

I think the reycling ads are really annoying. These ads would turn you off the idea.

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one on boards who hates them ads. A good few people on boards have mentioned it.

best 'so bad its good' ad has to be the new Tubs and Tiles ad with the 2 detectives doing the bust on the bad bathroom - quite an un-Irish ad, it actually reminds me of the mattress ad Philip Seymour Hoffman does in Punch Drunk Love(might be a DVD extra bit, cant remember)

the water ad.. ballygowan I think.. "I was dancing when I was 12".. it's so catchy.. can't help but kinda like it..

The new Simpsons ad on Network 2 (if anyone says RTE 2 I will crack them open :) ) where some really poor voice is being used to impersonate Lisa. God it really makes me hate this country, especially the last bit of the ad.

I hate them Kinder Bueno Ads - really wreck my head - the actors in them are obviously french or something and their voice overs are really bad.
Plus the chocolate bars tend to look like they are floating about in their hands. The graphics must have been changed to suit the Irish market. They didnt do a good job though.

Altogether a rubbish series of Ads from Kinder chocolate

Whats that ad for some cleaner.....***** Bang (can't remember the full name of it) Its such a terrible ad, the 1st time i saw it i thought it was a piss take

The Fruice ad is pure genius.

I love to hate infomercials. They're so bad they're entertaining. Like the power juicer and the ab-twister and whatever else these things are called.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,423 ✭✭✭fletch

I absolutely love infomercials. Spent a Summer in USA & coulda spent all day watchin them. Never bought a single thing from them (well my sis bought the ab shaper belt thingy which i used which was really good) but I find them hilarious.
If you buy within in the next 10mins....u'l get ALL this free. (even though its the 13th time you've watched the same ad!)

The ad where the mother throws herself down in the supermarket the bitch is totally annoying. Also any ads using false accent's that many people use nowaday's like the one that the young fella ask's his mother to take him heurling what a little bollix. That other annoying ad where your wan is directing traffic with a cold then your man gives her a tablet and she sing's that stupid song with an equally stupid dance. TV license ad where the inspector let's the whole neighbourhood know who didn't pay their license it would put anyone off paying their TV license.

Way to drag up on old thread, but the Lemsip ad with the guy (Dave?? I know it had a thread of its own) its the best ad in at least 5/6 years.

Other Guy: Dave(takes is hand out of his pants!!) , I thought you were ill? Without you the XXXXXXX merger was going down the pan.
Dave: I spoke to them yesterday, they sign tomrrow.
Other guy: but how i tought you were ill?
Dave: Lemsip to the power of 12, next time you cough up blood try it...........

Infomercials are great, especially food related ones. There was one that used to be on TV3 every night ages ago, some blender yoke with different sized containers that you could blend with. Can't remember the name. Anyway it was set up as a couple showing it off to their middle class friends, and the script was unbelievable. One of the men comes down hungover half way through and they make an "energy" smoothie for him, that kinda crap. All the food they made with it looked so delicious, especially the quesadilla. Anyway, the whole thing was amazing, I must have watched it 20 times.

edit: quick search and I managed to find it. The Magic Bullet. Not surprisingly the infomercial has a cult following, and I've just now remembered the best bit, when one of the lads drinks the health smoothie at the end. It's so awesome. "Not like vegetables at all!"

This is the ultimate "so bad it's good".

Yes, I still say Network 2, RTE spent about €2million 're-branding' when they 'switched' from network 2 to RTE 2

    money well spent lads.

I think the "mother in the supermarket" is actually now playing the loony Doctor May in Eastenders, you know the wan whose hubby duffed up Dawn the bar maid and now she wants to get Dawn's baby.
Are you sure about the wan directing traffic having a cold? What you described sounds like the ad for Gaviscon antacid/heartburn gunge, you know, the stuff that tastes like Pernod mixed with semi-synthetic motor oil. Is the song in the ad you are thinking of "What a Feeling" from that stupid Flashdance movie? If it is then it's deffo the Gaviscon ad.
Any advert about tv licenses rubs me the wrong way.
My all time worst ad has to be that one that Bord Gáis ran back in the 80's or early 90's with the teddy bears going around singing "50-50 cashback, 50-50 cashback, it's half price gas, it's half price gas." Couldn't get that damn tune out of my head for months, and now just thinking about it has brought it back again..... aaaaarrgh :o

What I'd give for a bit of 50/50 cashback now. I've just received my latest gas bill. It's over 300 quid. Robbing bastards!

Haha yeah, I watched this ad soo many times when I was living overseas, (there was absolutely nothing else on, and this was in daytime ) It's so funnily crap. An english man with american woman and their 'zaney friends.
I was in knickers laughing when I came home to find my mam got one! I rushed out to the shops to buy ingredients to make the pesto they always make on the ad. It's still sitting in the fridge...

That Malteser ad with the 2 women chatting in an office, and yer wan decides to flash her brassiere at some fella outside the window of the cubicle, because the Maltesers don't make her feel naughty. That kinda fits into the category of so good it's bad ads, doesn't it?

I love the ad where the Mother fakes the tantrum in the supermaket. When I watched it with my 4 year old he said thats silly & I said well that's how you look when you winge or moan in a shop. He rarely does it now thanks to that ad plus the fact if I think he's gonna winge or have a tantrum I get in there first & pretend I am and he knows its not going to work on me anymore! You get a few funny looks but its worth it in the long run :o

Myself & my daughter also love the ads that sponsor Desperate Housewifes where they say "L is for Lindemans". Or also the Herbal Essence that sponser it on Channel 4. They're so stupid but good.

Also the ads for certain toys make me laugh like the one for the world of magic pens or rainbow art. My son is glued to the tv when they come on. Its almost like he goes into a trance!! His favourite one is Matchbox mega rig and no matter where he is in the house he'll speed into the sitting room like lightening to watch it again in a trance.
