There was a few of us down the local pub the other nite chatting about what we'd love to do to cops (with living on the border we see a LOT of them)anyways, one of the lads spouted out this and im wondering if its true or not he reckons that if your in a town/city and you have to take a sh.it a cop HAS to give you his hat for you to do your deed in, i myself didn't believe this but then a few more lads backed him up on it saying it was ligit like. Sooooo then i got to thinking the one way a cop cannot do anything to you is when he hasn't got his cap on, if he hasn't got his cap on he's automatically off-duty and powerless. My thinking is that if say your caught by a cop for D&D or fighting or mucking about in a car in some law breaking manner when the cop goes to book you/take you into the pig stie, politely ask for their cap and take a dump in it...now any normal person will NOT put a cap after being sh.it in back on their head and without a cap on the cop can do nothing.

I'm wondering if this mite work, the only problem is cops being like sheep hang around in packs so there'd have to be at least 2 ppl to do the dunging!

imagine the look on their faces!. I want to know if this rule is true and if theres anymore weird things like it.

Eh, doesn't an off duty garda still have the power to make an arrest? That thing about them not being on duty when they don't have their hats on sounds like bullshit to me, and I'm sure any judge would kick you out of the court for using it as a defence

Slighty off cops, but there is one law that is still legit which I think is quite humourous.

The Law dates back to C19 and says that a hackney taxi MUST carry a hay bail at all times. The reason for this is that they needed it to keeps the horses clean etc. So the next time a driver charges you a ridiculous amount, ask him you show you his hay bail to prove he's a legit taxi

I think there is something about a Garda needing to be in full uniform when he makes an arrest (this includes his hat). You'll often times see the boys in blue running with their hat in their hands when chasing someone for that reason (I guess).

I've never heard anything about this whole taking a dump thing... Sounds awful sus to me, but one never knows!

Gardaí can make citizens arrests when they are off duty.

Thing is that they are the only one who actually KNOW how to make a citizens arrest

And they actually do it quite frequently.
They are supposed to make an arrest if it is needed, but then, so is everybody.

To be fair I wouldn't dump in their hat but I have heard frequently that if you're out totally ****ed off your head in town and flag down a gardai-car they are obliged to either put you up for the night (i.e. a cell) or bring you home.

I had a mate in college that swore by this!

I am almost certain that a cop doesn't have togive you his hat to **** in.
I am certain that a cop with no hat on is still alowed to do anything any other cop could. If someone tells you otherwise, break their nose.

Very true, u cant be stopped for taking a dump on the street, the reason as far as i know, u can only be injured be not taking a **** (burst bladder) while not taking a dump (over time) can be fatal... (or something to that effect)

another thing i heard, if ur pulled over to the side of the road, and leave the door locked and the windows up theres fu<k all they can do

There IS an Irish law that states that he must give you his hat if you needed a s.hit in public. IF you go to www.justice.ie you can look up the Irish laws and see for yourself. A Garda can arrest you when his hat is off, he has another badge attached to his shirt pocket for matters like that. I have asked a Garda that comes into my flats every so often and he said it's true, i even said i had to take a dump at that moment and he took his hat off!!! This must be one of those smart pigs, with genetically modified brains . I tell you all, if you get totally pi$$ed and need a crap, ask a Garda for his hat, he can't refuse you.

hehe, i know a few of my friends who have demanded lifts home in cop cars and got them.

Its the whole taking a dump thing in their hat that i'm interested in for the sheer humour of it, my mates weren't trying to make a fool out of me btw it was just a debate we had over a few pints the other night, i myself don't think its right but then again there were some stupid laws made years ago which still exist.

that one about pulling over the side of the road and locking yourself into the car, i dont think your right about it i mean if that were the case most of my mates would just of slept off the hangover instead of getting out and loosing their licence.

It's true and I know people who've done it... that you can hop into a garda car and they have to take you home. Someone I know (more of an acquaintance) hopped into a gards car one night while on the ****, thinking it was a taxi. The garda ended up taking her home anyway!! Classic.

I'm not gonna be ****tin in a gardas hat anyway...you'd get a whuppin.....

Another interesting one is that legally you are considered to be in control of the car once you sit in the drivers seat with access to the keys. Consequently you can be arrested for drunk driving without even putting the keys near the ignition.

Also if u do indeed need to take a **** in public the guard is supossed to hold his jacket round u while u urinate.

Actually I'm said they weren't. No one has given conculsive proof. The link that I mentioned eariler was from another persons post saying it was proven there when I couldn't find anything there.

But please after that long night out go up to a gardai and say "Give me your hat I need to take a crap" and see what he does.
