I recently installed a hd on another pc .. and it had awful probs to the extent ive pulled it apart never to go toghet again ..
I ****ed up the jumper settings ...

Cut a long story short ive purchased a dvdrw/hd enclosure thats fireware usb2 comp and its not picking up any of the hds no matter what jumper settings i use.. do i dont think it matters
Ive tried a few different hds 3x to be precise

It picks up the dvdrw and the usb mass storage device no probs but not the hds... it should make it an extra device and see it in my computer... like dvdrw but NOTHING > ???

It does pick up a maxtor 250 hd but it still doesnt show in the my computer ??

And this is on both pcs.. both pcs are using xp pro with sp2 on both..
    1 pc is laptop

    Any ideas please ??

I assume ur using standard ide drives,,so u cud gointo bios disable onbord ide controller and use an old ide pci io card with connectors for ide conected to hard drive and see if u cud get pc to boot up and load windows with that , set drive o as master or both as masters if u wanna use 2 cables off card,or master and slave or just try get 1 drive working or forget io an just try using old harddrive to test ur pc motherboard set it as master drive 0 go to pcbios set load drive o then drive 1 in autodetect mode save settings reboot ,if u go to harddrive seagate quantum etc u can see info on drive setup jumper settings,if u look around or use google drive name model no settings jumper.etc.if pc is ok u shud be able to load any old hd in autodtect mode as master, make sure idecables are both tight into motherboard interface, sometimes they workthemselves loose when changing jumpers.u may need to borrow hd and pci iocard from someone.i dont think u can buy em in shops anymore.

sounds like u have wrong jumper settings on ur hds apart from maxtor u cud just try jumper em in cable select mode ,if taht doesnt work try both on ide 1 ,with no jumpers and see if pc picks em up in boot up screen.how big r these drives ,u cud set up winxp on the maxtor just to have a pc working.what brand are the harddrives you have.

the ide card is gone out of the equation .. all i want now is to be able to work the drives on the usb2 external cradle..
I,ll try working the cable select jumper settings again but last time im nearly certain i tried all different types of settings to no avail

    western digi 250 gig 8mb
    maxtor 250 gig 8mb
    40 gig maxtor formatted

Also havent tried my pc 40 gig maxtor with essential data etc.. cvs things like that etc .. need it up asap

I,ll try em again... thanks for the reply
