So i had a look at there site and i was thinking of getting the Cannon Digital ixus 500 from the NY site. I just had a few questions about them such as, i was going to pay by credit card but i saw this "for first time credit card customers we require a copy of the credit card, and also a form of ID such as a passport, for insurance purposes". So how would u give them that? alos do we have Cash on Delivery here in ireland? is that payment option open to us? How long do they take to deliver? How many of u have used them and r they good and reliable? Thanks

I'ved used them twice in the past (SLR, Tamrac bag & printer) and the frist time I had to send them a scan of credit card and passport. Delivery was promt on both occasions. If their price is right I'll be using them again when I go to buy my DSLR.

so do u have to send that when u put in the order or do they ask u for it? also does anybody now about the cash on delivery thing?

I wouldn't recommend them, had a lot of hassle with them in the pass.

You should shop around two good site that have good feedback on www.dpreview.com are:

www.lagu.de (they are central Europe but supply to Ireland, limited language support)

the other site is one I've been keeping track of some time, as I may be buying a few lens from them. They're called www.technikdirekt.de. They have a feature called "compare" and if you find it cheaper else where they say they match the price.

    Good luck

It's on special on amazon.co.uk at the moment - £244.94 which works out at pretty much the same price as NY Camera.

How do you cancel an order with ny-camera. I've been waiting nearly 6 weeks since they asked for the ID confirmation for my order. The terms on their website says they must receive written notification. Does email count or do i have to send a letter?
First and last time I shop here, right pain in the a**e

Thanks for those links, paulj13. Have you used either of those sites in the past? Their price for the Dynax 7 Digital, which I plan on buying this side of Christmas, is very competitive. Do you know if they're in the Eurozone and if the quote price includes local tax?

I found out for myself:D Technik are based in Wuerzburg, Germany. The prices include tax and the cost of shipping is reasonable. They've more than likely got a new customer.

Any good, bad or indifferent experiences with these guys?

If you do a seach on the forums section of DPreview you'll find good review of Technik.

In relation to NY-camera check this out:

reading the pieces about ny camera makes me wonder if cam-ireland are any better?!? I'll be ordering off either of the two within a month I'd say, ny have the 20D about a hundred quid cheaper and technik are cheaper again...

That's strange. I ordered my 300D from NY Camera, and they were great. I currently have a couple of lenses on order from them...

Suppafly, if you order, they'll email asking for a fax/scan of your card passport.

Edited: Actually, SCRAP THAT! It seems, from recent posts at DPReview, that NY-Cam aren't responding to emails/calls at the moment. Apparently they're moving locations, but people are speculating that 'something' is going on, and there are people who ordered 20Ds who haven't heard anything in a month.

Ugh. Guess I better try to cancel my lens order then!
