What's anyone's favorite directors cut?? Do they improve films or make them tedious??

Some of the parts they cut out of the sixth sence were quite good, but i think it's better the way it is, make ya think more / gets ya more involved smile.gif

arn't directors cuts the way the director wanted the film, but just didn't have the time to finish off some scenes etc... ala StarWars SE.

    Best ever: Blade Runner.

The director's cut of The Abyss was also a vast improvement.

in some cases ye, in otheres it can be a case of having to cut scenes to bring the running time on the movie down or remove scenes because of story pacings etc.. (upon insistence of the studio) wink.gif

The Film that was most improved by having a Directors cut done was Brazil.
Basically the studio wanted a shorter running time and cut chunks out of the film left right and center to get it. They also managed to have a happy ending.
The director's (Terry Gilliam) version is significantly better and longer smile.gif

    Aliens.

Had loads more scenes esp. on the tension building half of the film (half lol). But it was kinda a bit of overkill at times.

Still it has some originality, for its time at least smile.gif

The director's cut of Blade Runner significantly changes the viewer's outlook on the film- far better than the studio version imho. That voice-over was just...wrong. Another brilliant director's cut was Das Boot- far more build-up to the amazing pathos the film creates. David Lynch's own cut of Dune is also far better than the studio's version (if a couple of hours longer biggrin.gif)

In some cases Director's Cuts are the way the director intended it - in others, its just a way of releasing a film again to get more money (was Star Wars SE any different with the new scenes?).

I'm not sure if this counts, but the This Is Spinal Tap dvd has over 1hr 30mins of extra footage. Its all absolutely brilliant stuff, as funny as the stuff that was included smile.gif

Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaught on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham! You just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man."
    hello.

Star Wars SE was crap. Sad thing is you probably couldn't get the original version now. Adding in scenes using modern technology did not help a 20+ year old film. Trying to make Han Solo look less of a ******* was also a stupid move symptomatic of Lucas trying to be too PC and kiddie friendly. Definitely a good example of money spinning at work.

Aye, don't like SW. Those damn Ewoks (sp?) give me the creeps. I'm glad their planet was destroyed, damn glad!!

What did you think of the extra footage after the Matrix, that was kinda cool biggrin.gif
