I have racked the grey matter for sometime now, thinking of what would be a good post for here, anything worth while has already been posted but i am not sure if this topic has already been posted but if it has i apoligise (i am not here that long). My rant for today is Traffic Cops and the law's they enforce.

I do alot of driving and in my time i have been known for exceeding the limit and i am not going to say anything about been caught for speeding on open roads, but i do have one thing that really bugs the living hell out of me.
i got caught speeding heading for the city centre one day. Anyone know the area heading in to city from lucan just before where the ballyfermot exits are (known area for speed checks i have noticed since)but there is mr traffic cop sitting there looking like something from a wash and go advert with the hair dryer in his hand and lo and behold i am the first of the oncomming traffic and i get busted. I was only doing around 60 (no more than 65) and I ask what is the problem, to be told that i was doing 64mph so i thought ok, next he starts to write a ticket and i ask what is he doing, to be told that i was speeding, the whole story is that i was doing 64 in a 50. This is my rant, can anyone tell me where else in the world do you have the situation that you are entering into the capital city of a country, on a dual carraige way with a good road surface and no mentionable dwelling areas in sight and they reduce the speeding limit. Now i do realise that speeding is a major contributor to deaths on irish roads but this is stupid, The guard also pointed out that their are signs on the road to indicate the speed limit, also stupid, when i drive i concentrate on driving not look out for tiny signs to tell me that you are about to loose some of your hard earned money to a person with only one thing on their mind. Now i do realise that guards have a job to do but reality is reality a major city with two lanes of traffic and they lower the speed limit.
Sorry about the ranting but it is somthing that really bugs me. Anyone else care to add their pennies worth

You enter a more built up area with more traffic and people around - OF COURSE the speed limit is going to be less there! ... and the signs aren't 'tiny' - they're generally quite easily noticeable. As a "good driver", "watching the road" includes keeping an eye out for any signs and notices which may affect you (including speed limit signs) as well as watching the other traffic and road direction signs. If you don't watch out for these signs, how are you supposed to know what speed you are allowed drive at? NOT paying attention to them is just plain irresponsible.

It's not only that the guards have a job to do - you have a law to abide by. You broke the law and you got caught. Tough.
