Text Buddy...Why not ICQ?

Theres a thread about a program called text buddy which sits in your system tray and allows you to send messages from your computer without having to log into the vodaphone website. Why not just use ICQ? Its free and you can send unlimited messages. The only problem is that your number will not show up on the receivers phone but some 10 digit icq number but this can be easily remedied by adding in a line of text at the end like "Its Joe Blogs, reply to my phone".

Last I heard, this wasn't supported by any Irish networks... But I can't access the site to check (damn SquidGuard...), so you'll have to check here to see for yourself.

It used to work years ago (back when I used to use ICQ) but I tried it recently with no joy.

Robert is right, this feature of ICQ used to work last year, but one day it just stopped working, I've checked it on and off since then and no joy. I'm not sure whether its just an Irish thing now or what though...

Looks like its back to Vodafone Buddy so...

I can also verify that it used to work for Ireland (ICQ sending SMS).

The cool thing was that people could reply to the message. If you replied using the ICQ smsc you wouldn't be charged. Not sure if this was intentional or if Eircell (thats how long ago it was) just messed up.
