I'm just wondering is anybody else out there interested in baseball?

I got into the sport big time over the past year after a visit to Boston last Summer and got to see the Boston Red Sox play.

This time of year is post season baseball, with the Red Sox up against the New York Yankees for a place in the World Series, something Boston haven't won since 1918! (This is the year!)

New York led the 3-0 in a best of 7 game series but the Red Sox battled back over the last 3 mights to tie it up at 3-3, with the final game on tonight at 1am on Channel five if you can tune it in or have NASN on Digital.

Be sure to watch this game, it will be amazing!

Sounds like you are a red sox fan. Good luck. My team (the Cubs) didn't live up to their potential this year.

    Thats for the info myperfectcousin,

Unfortunately i'm moving to Ennis in a couple of weeks time.
Are there any teams down that way?

Oh yeah definitely a Red Sox fan in the AL, i suppose the Cubs would be my NL team as i had Cubbie hats and t-shirts when i was younger... although i didn't have a clue about baseball!!

The Nomar trade worked out great for the Sox, bringing in Orlando Carbrera and Doug Mientkiewicz really shored up the defence side of things and with sluggers like big Papi and Manny in the team we're on track for the World Series...

I'm a Redsox fan too. I actually lived about 100 yards from fenway park and used to drink on Lansdowne st!!!

Subscribed to NASN just to watch the end of the baseball season. I can't believe they managed to turn around a 0-3 series to beat the damn yankees :D

God i hope the curse is lifted this year by the Idiots....

I really got into it in the summer when I was over in LA. Went to see the Dodgers one night when we were at a loose end and ended up going for the next three nights after that. Since then I've been hooked and subscribed to NASN too. Glad to see the Yankees lose, I've disliked them ever since their link-up with Man United.

Brilliant Red Sox win last night and all week, no team in play off history has come from 0-3 games down to force a Game 7 never mind win the series, the Sox did it this week. To win the ALCS in NY was even better. Great preformance by Schilling on Tuesday and Lowe last night, they can have a bit of rest now until Saturday night. I would love to see them meet Houston in the WS, espically if Rodger 'the Rocket' is going to pitch at Fenway. Now that they have the NY monkey off there back I hope they go on and win the whole lot, or it could be another 18 years before they get to the WS again

super_furry: are the WS games live on NASN this year, last year they showed them delayed the following day cos 5 had the TV right this side of the world.

They're live. They had the Red Sox and Dodgers game at 1am last night and are showing the Astros and Cardinals game tonight.

From the NASN schedule, it looks like the games will be live but they don't have the "live" tag beside the times. I've fired off a quick email to ask them. i'll post the reply here....

EDIT: ****E! I mixed up 12.30 in the afternoon as 12.30 in the morning....NASN do not have the games live by the look of things!

NASN have the ALCS and NLCS but I just checked the NASN and C5 websites, once again C5 have the WS rights and NASN will show them the next day. AFAIK C5 do not use the US commentary from Fox, which would be like watching Iraqi's commentating on the All Ireland.

Crap, I didn't realise that. I just assumed that because they had the ALCS and NLCS that they'd have the World Series. That's a bit of a pisser.

Yeah AFAIK Five tv have the rights to the World Series, which is ok by me because i can receive five at home.

Stayed up till 5.25am watching the game this morning and what a game it was, coming back from 0-3 to win 4-3 is as the Americans say "AWESOME".

I couldn't believe it... i keep telling everyone that because this is my first year of really supporting a team (BoSox) that they'll win the WS!!!!!

    GO SOX.... CURSE WHAT CURSE!!!!!

    :D:D

C5 do use Fox comentary BTW.

They normally use ESPN durning the season but because Fox have the rights to the post season and WS they now have a link with Fox.

slightly off topic but how can you get 5????

That's good, I had contacted NASN this time last year on the issue of live WS coverage and they said even though they did not have the live rights they are the only ones with US commentary, glad to see it has changed

The only way I know to get 5 in the ROI is if you have Sky digital get a UK FTV card. More details on this sticky on the sat. board.

Last year BBC Radio 5 had commentary on the WS, not sure if they have it this year. If you cannot get BBC Radio 5 on the radio it can also be got on Sky digital, details of how to tune it are somewhere here

Or you can do as I have just done, subscribe to MLBs video and audio package (I paid $14.99 for the International package) and you can listen to the games live from each team radio network or watch it on you computer, they also archive each game which is great cos if I can’t stay awake I can listen to the full thing when I get into work, I am currently listening to last nights game on WEEI.

To tune in C5, on a TV that can select the channel frequency, select 599Mhz.
The signal isn't the best and is sometimes very fuzzy but most times it's very clear. (especially at night)

We have a signal booster on our aerial (living in Swords) and even with automatic tuning on another TV (Sony) it receives C5. Although i do know some people in Swords can't receive it.

It seems to be hit and miss!

Best of luck tuning it in.

Hey, a big Red Sox fan here, and I'm glad to see that there are plenty more Sox fans here in ireland. I've been a Sox fan for two years, since goign to see them in Fenway. Really want to go back there to see a game.

By the way does anyone know if there are any bars or anything that will be showing the WS in Dublin. If the series makes it to Games 6 and 7 I will be in Dublin so wont be able watch. Can't let that happen.
At a push I may head into a 24 hour internet cafe and listen to WEEI coverage.

Not sure, first pitch is usually around 1.05am Irish Time so you would need to find a place open all night !!!!!

If you want to listen to it on WEEI you will have to go to MLB.com and buy their audio package, that's what I have done, works very well.

Looking forward to game 3 tonight (1st pitch 1.30am Irish time) it will be interesting to see how the sox deal with not having the DH.
For good Sox coverage read Dan Shaughnessy is the Boston Globe., his columns are very good

Another great Sox win last night, after a shaky start Pedro (in possibly his last game in a Sox uniform) set down 14 in a row and left with a 4-0 lead after 7. Now Dereck Lowe has the chance to make history.............

Its been coming for a while. I really hoped that they didn't use up all their balls in beating the yanks. Fantastic win for them

Woo hoo!!!! Was getting a bit worried when all the cardinals big hitters were up in the ninth...i could just see the bloody curse striking again!!!

8 in a row must be some sort of post season record and 11-3 overall post season is pretty special too....

Same here, I got worried when they left the bases loaded in the 8th, but they got it done.

As well as the front page there are some great columns in the Boston Globe, Dan Shaughnessy and Bob Ryan have been waiting for this day for years.

I can't believe it, it is amazing!!!!

Nearly thinking of flying over to Boston for the party!!!

To be down 3-0 against the Yankees and to sweep the World Series against the Cards 4-0 is remarkable, stuff of legends

    CURSE.... WHAT CURSE!
    WE BELIVE NOW!!!!

The only reason I'm glad the season is over is that I can finally get some much needed sleep. I was running on fumes during the Sox-Yanks series...
