Now this is intruiging. Ofcom in the UK have the same functions as Comreg here and also have the Broadcasting Commission brief bolted on. They are effectively saying that the next national UK TV station will run on BB and will not be broadcast. The initial proposal is for 3 hours a day FUNDED DIRECTLY by Ofcom. This is a good example of how a regulator with vision can push the technology and the market in tandem .

Full story on the Reg , where else.

In so doing Ofcom are pushing the BB operators to jump from the current 512k and 1mbit offerings to 5-10mbit offerings, it takes at least 5mits to do this kind of service. Now there is an example of a regulator creating a market.

It wont happen here where watching full motion video could cost you €36 a Gigabyte, Marty and Marys recipe section alone could bankrupt you.
