Hi, got a pioneer 108 burner there on friday,
now I am trying to burn 3 folders of games that Ihad saved on the comp
they're compressed, and they total about 4.5gigs
Now in nero i jus select the option dvd, like as if i was burning a cd-r(but have it set to dvd in the drop down)
burnt it at 4x, actualy burned them twice thought the first one could have been a feck up.
But it burns grand and says complete, i pop the dvd back into the dvd burning drive and nothing shows up on it at all,
cant try it in the cd-r drive as its not advd readable.
but I'm assuming the dvd burner can read dvds, any ideas?
any other software anyone could recamend me trying?

pop in ISOBuster (software) and scan the disc to see if the files actually did burn. Its possible you did a "simulation" only burn. i.e. the data was never actually written.

Do the discs still show up as empty in windows? (i.e. 4.36gb of free space). Or do they show up as having 0kb free space. (try this by putting the disc in the DVD burner)

No, i don't have simulation selected, and have multidisc turned off
I can see data has been written to the dvd's by looking at the dvd
When i double click the dvddrive it just says "please inset disk into drive"

Ok... what brand of media is it. And whats the media identifier on the disc. You need to use DVDInfopro to get the media code. Its possible the discs are just pure ****e.

Also, try upgrading the firmware on the drive. that usually helps aswell.

Yea I was thinking it could be the disks,
I can encode avi's and they work fine on dvd players, well tried one the sound was off but that was due to me selecting pal or ntsc encoding
i'm after getting some different dvds off someone these I'll give them a try.
btw, the dvds I am using are datawrite 4x, but ill check with that software and post back

I actualy think its down to burning with nero now,
I tried burning a svcd there with the dvd drive, and also my other cd-r drive,
they burned proerly with no errors. but when I load them in the drive as if nothing is happening.. I may go and re-install nero could be some setting set wrong
but what other software is there out there as good as nero?

Firstly, the RITEKG04 discs are a good brand of disc. They shouldn't be causing the problem.

Secondly, when did you get the DVD burner. Is it only new? Could it be that your power supply is underpowering your system, and as a result the laser isn't getting enough power for a proper burn. I've heard of this happening before, but didn't really believe it. Try installing Motherboard Monitor, and using that to measure voltages. Everything should be within 5% of the usual voltage. If it isn't, you're power supply isn't enough.

If one of your drives is new, disconnect it and see if everything works as normal. Try plugging out the non-dvd burner drive from the power supply, and then burning a disc and see if it works then.

If you want to try another burning program, I couldn't recommend anything in particular (i use nero), but hunt around the net and see what the story is.

Try using RW's if possible, so you don't waste any discs while you test. But bear in mind some standalone players won't play RW discs, so you'll ahve to test the disc in the burner drive. If it reads there, everything is ok.

Hmm...I had something like this affect me with my Sony DVDRW DWU10A, did you burn the disk as multisession? I was, and while it told me that the disk had burned properly, Windows Explorer couldn't read it.

Well, I was in Easons the other week when I found some recordable DVDs going for €8 a pop, so I thought I'd give it another shot, this time with a different brand. And this time it worked perfectly. The first time I had bought disks I had, like yourself, bought DVD-R, but this time I had bought DVD+R, and it worked a charm. In fact, I'm copying some of my larger burnt disks to DVD this very instant.

Well, I was in Easons the other week when I found some recordable DVDs going for €8 a pop,
I hope to god you did not pay 8eur for ONE disc! You can get great quality 8x discs for as little as eur18 per 25 (including covers). www.blankdiscshop.co.uk is your man for ALL media needs!

Yeah, I know that, but I wanted to get one disk fast just to test. It was Friday, and I was a geek with an itch to test something new on his box...

    About the power supply..
I don't think it could be the powersupply
    think I have a 350 or 400watt psu
I had already had 2 drives installed, a dvdrom&cdr combo and my other 48x cd-r
I disconnected the dvd combo and gave the dvd-r its space insted
The problem seems to be that *no* cd's are showing up in either drive, be it a copy or a legit copy
    any ideas now?
I can copy dvd images grand and they work in the dvd player

all i can think is either the power supply can't power the new drives, or the IDE cable is fecked.

Try putting the old drive back in and see if the problems end. If they do, disconnect the two drives, and reconnect just the DVD burner, and see what happens.
