    so the gherkin won...

i hadn't had a look at all of the buildings until watching tonights show

and im glad it did, they way it was explained in the graphics on the tv programme tonight the shape and the air flow, it really did seem they got this odd shape building by following function as much as form, not just taking a some lsd and drawing something odd looking like the "friendly alien"

i liked the way the town said do something as crazy as these other buidings don't be concerend about blending it into the existing buildings... (altough doing something crazy and ornate was a blending into the existing ornate buildings..)

it didn't occur to me whether the spire should have been in that short list or not until i saw tonights program... it is a scultpure not a building imho

i liked the war museum, the bolted on metal and the tower which was covered in strips of metal and not a solid wall to let the wind blow through i thought that was exceptional...

kevin mc cloud can speak fluent french and italian?

the gerkin deserved it, excellent proof of intellegence that the design world can create something of use, instead of a spike....

The curved form when explained is fantastic, A pity its not open to the public. Must be a fantastic place to work, looks very 'airy' inside. I'm very suprised that all the offices have not been taken up!

Glad I saw the program, explained some of the ideas very well. Like the fact that when you look up at it the building doesn't look that tall due to the fact that it curves in at the top. And the way it curves in at the bottom means the base is smaller. I though it was funny how they mentioned that this was the second nominee that the IRA were responsible for. They blew up Nelsons Column and the previous building where the Gherkin now stands.
