My girlie is moving from Liverpool to Dublin. Just wondering if anyone could fill me in on a few details...

How do you get a bank account without her having proof of address yet?

Does she need a residence permit?

Can she get a job without a PPS number?

Checked some of the gov and banking sites and still a bit unclear....

    Thanks!

I work for a company that sometimes hires people from outside the EU
this is how we set them up:

your g/f will no doubt be staying somewhere, so she can use that address.
she is english? if so, she does not need a permit - if she is not from the EU then she will have to apply for a work permit.
yes, she can get a job without a PPS number, but she will have to apply for one from Social Services, she can then give the number to her employer - this takes about 10 days.
normally we give non EU employees a letter explaining that they work for us, along with their address and rate of pay, this helps them to open the bank a/c without problem, normally we will send them to open their a/c in our company bank, this is helpful as the bank already knows our company.

    Hey Ruggie,

Did the same ting myself some years back......

If she's with Nat West or HSBC in the UK then she can normally get an Ulster Bank account no problem - same family. Some Banks over here take Barclays references too.

I got an employer reference & used the same branch as the company & that solved my problem. If she hasn't got a job, then it can take a while

Not if she's an EU Citizen

Yes - Most employers HR depts will help with the application. She'll be allocated one as soon as she gets into the system.

PM me if you've any more or specific queries - I was born in London but have gone through the whole system (including marriage  ) by now & am now a full Irish Citizen & passport holder.

    Thanks! but just one thing...

we plan to move into a apt together but we won't have any utility bills or proof of address from there for at least a month. Would you reckon a tenancy agreement would be sufficient for the bank!?

sure most of the eastern european/russian guys who work for us live in rented houses or flats, as long as you have a job and the job gives you a letter saying as much, then there will be no problems.

I have to disagree a little here based on my own experience. I came back from the US last year to work a contract, born and raised Irish. Bank accounts were closed to I went to open a new one, same bank as I had before. I had a printed signed lease for my house rental and a letter from the agency who was paying me and still couldn't open an account. After some back and forth I got an account number but no access to it, they sent a statement to my address and made me bring it in to verify the address before they would give me access. I do like the idea of going to a branch though where the employer is well known, that might work better.

Thanks for that Kernel32. Guess we'll just have to be lucky and hope the banks are understanding....just find it amusing that in practically every job now you must have a bank account to get paid. Considering the expense of bank accounts here, i find it a bit rich....

Could always get my girlfriend to put her pay into my account..... :D
