Frequency problems with HDDs? Surely that can't be right? You sure you didn't change any of your bios settings regards the CPU, memory, fsb, etc?

I don't know what the frequencies but www.google.com should know.

Did you set the new HDD to slave?

You seem to be totally confused(i think)frequencies?Never heard the like.
You may not have the 48 bit lba for the large drives so your comp can see them properly.
If your are able to boot to safe mode correctly surely you can get to proper boot?.
Did you try repair module in xp pro?Can you bios detect your hdd okay at the moment and is it less than 160 gig?
If you think its your bios then go to default settings...safe it...and reboot.
Or reset cmos will also do this.It should give us a clue to whats wrong.

    regards kieran

Hmm i think it was on cable select and it tried to boot from the floppy which is disconnected then the spare hd.. basically trying to boot from 2 different hard drives.. big no no ..

IVe now gotten to the stage where its kind of stuck on the bios screen
    Mobo is a7v8x

Error im getting is "During the last boot-up your system hung for an improper cpu speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To Optimize the system performance and reliability make sure the cpu speed conforms to the specs of ure cpu"

    ANy ideas.. ?????

IN the bios section i cannot move to boot for some reason and get it to boot from hard drive floppy cdrom etc.. its not really a problem if i can get it going again but its still something which needs looking at

Also the fact im using a usb keyboard which is sometimes picky because it only works when xp is on etc.. needs to be detected etc

So im in a pickle !!

simple solution is to reset your bios to it's defaults. there will either be a software setting for this in the bios itself or a jumper on the motherboard to reset it to it's defaults.

once you have this done your mobo should automatically detect what cpu you have and run it at the correct speed.

if it doesn't then you need to look at the emd website for answers.
