Hi, I normally deal with tarred files which are easy to untar in a unix environment. However, I have a .rar archive of a few hundred files that I need on a unix machine where the filenames are in Japanese. Whats the easiest way of getting these onto the unix machine ? Will I have to change the filenames due to the doublebyte character names ?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Would something like this be of any use? Given that its only one archive, you should be able to live with the shareware limitations.

In had these files on my windoze XP machine but was unable to SCP the files onto the unix machine due to the double byte filenames. I played about with the XP Language settings by adding the Japanese IME and checked "extend to all applications". After these changes I was able to use WinSCP to transefer the files to the unix box.
