    Well, I got a return train ticket from Antwerp to Amsterdam and I think it was thirty euro or so. The journey was 2 hours, so from Brussels it will be still less than three hours. If you get a cheap Ryanair flight to Brussels Charleroi, then the coach to Brussels centre, then the train, maybe it will work out quite cheap. I know Dublin Amsterdam direct is damn expensive!!!!!!!!!!!

    gotta agree.. I flew Shannon to Brussels Charleroi, it's a quick flight and much much cheaper than aer lingus flight direct.. trains are very regular between Brussels and Amst. thing is Charleroi is bit from Brussels too.. so u must get bus think it was about a tenner.. into the city.. it all adds up!!!

    when I was there it was summer.. and we camped in local campsite.. so no info on accommodation I'm afraid!

    You dont have to take the bus into brussels city centre. Just get the local bus to charleroi train station. Then buy your ticket for amsterdam return there. You will more than likely take a train into brussels and another onwards for the Dam.

    Other option would be to travel with Basiq Air to Rotterdam from Dublin. They are a low fares airline although i have never used them..so dont have any feedback.
    A train ride from Rotterdam wouldnt take long. dunno how it works with regard to transferring from airport to train station?

    The belgian railways have a website with an english version - showing prices and timetables etc. Just google it.

    There's a recent thread on flying to Eindhoven and then getting from there to Amsterdam - should be of some use to you.

    <edit>

    Rotterdam, not Eindhoven I guess

    Personally speaking, I think you would be better to fly to Schiphol or Rotterdam. Of course Schiphol is more expensive, but Basiqair to rotterdam is not too bad. I've flown with them a few times and have to say are good.

    Below is a response to a similar question I posted recently...should be of some use.....

    Its easy to get from Rotterdam Airport to Rotterdam Centraal Station by bus.

    Exit the terminal, turn left and walk to the end of the building and you will come to a bus stop. Get the local bus 33 to rotterdam Centraal Station (about 20 mins, pay cash or stripenkaart). From there is is about an hour to Amsterdam Centraal by train.

    To find directions from/to anywhere by public transport in NL, try

    http://www.connexxion.nl/website/re...nfo_reisplanner

    There is also an express buss from Rotterdam Aport to Amsterdam Centraal station.

    Info at: http://www.basiqair.com/ie

    hope this helps.
