Why do people like all the minor characters?

I was just wondering what the big deal was with the massive fan base for all the minor characters? I mean, loads of people say that Boba Fett is their favourite character, but why? In the films he mainly stands around doing nothing and then dies a comically stupid death! Hardly a role-model. Yet people still love this character and others like it. How come no one seems the have Han or Luke or Chewy as their favourite. For the love of god, they did save the galaxy in the film! Don't they deserve some respect?

Boba Fett looks sh*t cool - that's why I liked him. An intergalactic bounty hunter is quite a slick occupation too. I also would have killed for a rocket pack when I was a kid.

I think the lesser known characters have a sense of intrigue about them - where are they from, what do they sound like, what do they do, etc....I guess Star Wars fans have a hunger for the unknown.
Also, some of the lesser known figures were harder to get, hence making them more popular with fans. "Oh, you have Figure X! Cool!"

Maybe people don't class Han Luke or Chewie as their favourites because they were EVERYWHERE - an abundance of figures and merchandise for all of these characters, and no shortage of exposure in the movies. I personally found Luke to be a whiney fag, Chewie to be good but not great because he couldn't speak, so theres only so much his character can develop - I thought Han was cool though - BUT, at the same time, he was human - which doesn't exactly seem too special in a Sci-Fi movie. I guess kids found the aliens more interesting.

Im guessing its the look of Boba Fett that got the fans going ape over him as from a movie stand point he dosent even match up to Sebulba but he does look damm cool in that armor.

Personaly Darth Vader has been my fav from the moment I first saw him storm onto that Rebel ship all the way back in 1977 :D
