prolly ebay for about 300, but you'll need to fit it yourself,

think they are about 600+ yoyo's from mactivate..+install

    could also try typetec.ie

Is it cracked or just the backlight gone (shine a light through the apple logo on the back to test)

Look on eBay. Sometimes you see ads for finding out how to get replacement screens direct from manufacturer at low price. Dunno how trustworthy they are though. I bought a replacement screen for an old Lombard off some guy on Ebay called "wallachee" who specialises in powerbook parts, and it worked fine, albeit a bit hard to install. I think his site is www.powerbookmedic.com. No problems with delivery, excellent dealer. The only hard part was finding a torx-8 screwdriver (which I now have).

Do you mean that the *screen* is broken, or the entire lid? If just the LCD, be certain that you're getting the right replacement model (the 667MHz and lower ones aren't suitable).

It can be got for $600 here:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/cart/catalog/category_10_Displays_page_1.html.

    It's $1049 here:
    http://www.pbparts.com/shop/1lcd.html

You need to be aware of a few things: doing it yourself is going to be problematic, not lest because you can't just use any old superglue to stick the Titanium back together again. Disassembling the laptop to replace the screen is going to take a lot of time and care.

It's about €1100 to get Apple to replace the screen. As regards non-Apple repair, PowerBookMedic.com (i.e. wallachee) in the US don't do international repairs (you'd need to drop it in yourself and collect).

There *is* a firm in California called PowerBookResQ http://www.powerbookresq.com/ who will accept international repairs, but the details (FedEx, etc.) are entirely in your own hands.

I can certainly sympathise - I have an otherwise-perfect TiBook of the same model, whose right hinge has gone!

the lcd has cracked and has leaked internally when i was replacing a hinge. i happen to work in the retail sector and mactivate have a complete monopoly in ireland over this and they will not direct sell the part.. only sell the part and install it which means more €€€ for them..

all i want is the part and tehn i will install it myself.. the problem is that i need it quite quickly so ebay and american sites aren't an option unfortunately

Did you happen to get a quote from Mactivate, for the hinge replacement? - I'd be interested, obviously (the only other place I'm aware of that does Mac repairs is a shop on the Southside, but they only do more minor stuff than this).

One figure for you - the resale value for a perfect-condition TiBook of these specs on eBay is about €1200. Of interest to yourself is that you'll get a bit more than this if you disassemble it and sell components seperately, but it'd obviously take much longer to dispose of. Just something to bear in mind.

If you *do* just decide to replace it, there're a couple of second-hand AlBooks up for sale on Buyandsell at the moment.

That's the worry with these repairs, isn't it :-/ You can get a replacement hinge for less than €60 on eBay, but you need to know what you're doing to replace it.

Right, I got a quote this morning for replacing a hinge at €180 for two hour's estimated labour, they'll pick up from Dublin city centre and deliver back.

They also told me that a replacement hinge would cost €200 - I told them that I'd supply it myself, from eBay (~€60!). Sweet, I'm going to go with this.

I know it's no use to you now, but having read through some of the do-it-yourself guides on the Net, fixing a TiBook seems *devilishly* hard and I'd advise people against doing it.

    Not quite true i believe,

I got a quote for a replacement 12' screen for a clamshell ibook after i dropped it, and they werent going to fit it, it was being sent to germany to get the job done!!

cost = 600 euro at the time (the ibook had cost me 450 :( ) needless to say i didnt get the screen replaced

I have a screen from a 1GHz PB which I'd sell you for €300. My laptop fell and the hinge broke. The screen (and computer) worked fine for weeks untill the wires to the screen eventually got pulled out. I just use the computer with a monitior now. If you think it would be any good to you email me at flibble@esatclear.ie.
