I've build a new athlon 64 based server to do act as a file / web server in the office. Whats the best Linux distro to go for?
I'll be running mgetty, samba, mysql & apache primarily.
I downloaded what I thought was the most appropriate mandrake distro from the mandrake ftp server but the install cd1 isnt even bootable, it has me tearing my hair out.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

I've no experience with 64 bit systems but, with regard to the non-bootable cd, is it not possible to kick off the install process from boot floppy?

It would be if a suitable boot image was provided.
Within the /images directory there is a file "all.img" which supposedly contains a boot image that covers all eventualities (its 19mb or something).
I've tried burning it as a bootable cd using floopy emulation & with no emulation & I cant get it to boot.
The only cdrom.img file that I got was from a 32bit distro & although it booted the machine fine of course, it crashes when I put in the 64bit install cd when prompted by the installation.

Ah I reckon I've the wrong distro entirely, I've downloaded the boot cd from the suse site for x86 64 & will give the internet install of that a go.
    Thanks for the help lads.
