    He'ya,

In November I am going to stay in Galway for two weeks. Well, I could read some brochures and all this kind of information stuff to get more information about the city. However, I would like to get more realistic information. Please feel free to advertise Galway to me. ;-)

    Bye for now,

Well, we've got the smallest leprechauns in the country, which makes us one of the richest counties in the country (the smaller you are the more gold you get.).

Umm, there's like, food, and stuff?

other than that it's just expensive,

    have fun! :D

Are you looking for a "good time" or a "nice time"?

    things to see ...

    the pubs ... and ... er ... the pubs ... and er ... the pubs ... :)

25 years and I'm getting suspicious about galway ...

apart from that ... there are a few places of interest ... if you've got a car go see the cliffs of mohair ... I think they are pretty cool ...

there's a few land marks around galway ... nothing much of any major touristic value ... the burrens really nice for hiking .. but thats more .. clare as are the cliffs of mohair ...

the aran islands are good too if there's more than the 1 of you ... feel like you've got multiple personalities ...

hmm think the main attraction to galway are the pubs and the social life in my view anyways ... will try and think of a few other things to see ...

november being what it normally is ... it'll be wet ... and windy .. just like most other months :P

    James

Take a drive out West, either along the coast or along the Corrib.
The weather might be a bit poor around November, but I'm sure you'll find enough nice spots around.

Take a "B&B* Tour" of Glaway/Mayo/Clare, some good scenery and attractions around there, depending on what you like.

    Bring wet gear :)

    *B&B == Bed & Breakfast

    He'ya,

Many thanks to all. As far as I can see I will have a good time.

    @ Magnolia_Fan: I am looking for a good time.
    What is your recommendation ?

@egan007: Sounds strange, but interesting. I think I will check it out.

The best Jazz gig on Sundays is in Neachtains (the famous blue pub in the angle on top of quay st) from 9ish to 11 according to me.
Danny Healy on the trumpet, Franck Kilkelly on the guitar and Barry (the drummer from the Salsa band in Massimo's) and sometimes Chad Dughi on the guitar.
A brilliant chilled out gig with fantastic musicians in a great environment.

Also check out the Spanish bar on Saturday nights for the gipsy swing sessions (10ish) free. Incredible to hear Django Reinhardt live on in Galway.
If you want more jazz, check out the Galway Jazz club in Richardson's upstairs (top corner of Eyre square) around 10 (admission is 5 € I think) with some of Ireland's most talented musicians. Different guest every week.

There is also the Salsa band in Massimo's on Wenesday nights (free). Great atmosphere guaranteed. I think they changed a few of their tunes recently, which was a good idea since their set was starting to get rusty after a few months.

Personally I really enjoy the Comedy club on Sunday nights in Bar Cuba. It's usuall £10 in and you get free into the nightclub after. Myself and two of my mates used to go there a lot. Seen some great comedians. The best thing of all is you can enjoy it without having to be pissed.

btw What's the story with all the jazz lovers around galway?

If your like me and enjoy old school rock then Sally Longs is the place for you, especially on sunday nights with a few of your mates. Nice relaxing evening in the pub listening to quality tunes. Heaven

It's such a shame that the vacuous CP-bound f*cktards are adopting it as the place they wait in till the pathetic dive of a club is open. It makes some nights in Sally's akin to Hell On Earth, only with more fake tan and shiny maths-copy-shirt -wearing missing links.

ah well noel knows a good business op when he see's one ... and I mean look at the change in sallys in the last few years ... its gone from dingy oh god don't go there ... to ... one of the biggestest student hangouts .. well in my opinion ..at any rate.. the only decent rock pub ... and the beer is cheap ... sure you could go to the hole in the wall .. but thats just too jammed for my liking and only fun if you're a student ...

just head up the back of sal's to the pool .. and you'll be ok ... the cp's crowd don't seem to head down there that much .. as there has always been ... the pillar at the bar that separates the regulars from the drop ins...

Now you see that's your problem :)

You actually consider The Hole In The Wall a valid destination.
It's filled with tools from Dangan, Newcastle, Salthill etc. and the rest of the country rejects who follow the herd.
The pints are water with a hint or urea thrown in for taste.

Sally's is a grand pub on good nights.
    Unfortunately those are becoming fewer.
Also, the lack of regular live acts sucks.
Time was when there'd be something happening in there most evenings. A good few people I know started out gigging in places like Sally's. Places which are now few and far between.

2 friends of mine (and one chancer) had their heads shaved for charity a year ago in the back with a crowd cheering them on.
The atmosphere in there some evenings is hardly conducive to that sort of craic any longer.
There is a market for rock pubs everywhere. They attract a certain (loyale) clientele. It's sad to see a good spot being changed for the worse.
