    Does anyone know any thing about voIP? Im trying to build a softphone to talk over a network.

    ya I have done but no joy as to how to program a softphone just loads of stuff on the hardware side of things

    Don't worry, you'll soon learn how to search for these things and get results.

    Starting with Wikipedia, we find that VoIP uses a number of protocols, depending on the implementation. Those being RTP [ Wikipedia|RFC ] for live transmission, and SIP [ Wikipedia|RFC ] in newer systems, or H.232 [ Wikipedia|Specification ] for legacy systems to control signaling. Theres more information in the Wikipedia article.
