simple enough question - how to have winamp (5) start up and play a CD when I insert it rather than windows media player 9? Using XP professional.
Needless to say, the answers on Microsoft's website are lies, wmp9 opens regardless of what this is set to.

Open My Computer - Tools - File Types...The first item in the list should be (NONE) AudioCD...click Advanced
In the Actions pane select Play and then hit Edit. Then where it says Application used to perform action, put in "c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe" or wherever you installed winamp to....that should work

I should, but it doesn't. I'll need a registry hack, methinks.

On another note - do you find Winamp5 stable? Especially when playing CDs? I find it keeps crashing randomly (this program must close etc.), and this is before and after an unrelated HD format and reinstallation?

    Just wondered was it me.

No stability problems so far, but I only installed it yesterday.

I also tried this, but it didn't change anything.
Surely someone knows how to do this?

Yeah, Winamp started crashing on me now, and the Play CD option has disappeared.
Seems to be a POS. Think I'll go back to version 2.
