2 Questions - New Folder & Screensaver risks

Firstly, how exactly do you edit the list that pops up when you right-click and choose new...It always takes a second to load but now it's taking about 5 seconds. 5 precious seconds. I wanna remove all the shortcuts that programs add in there. All I ever wanna do is make a new folder (and I use XP Classic view so...)

    Secondly,
Is there any danger is downloading a screensaver? i.e. Can it include spyware, even from a legit. site. I really don't mind that much just I just wanna get past the Windows flag...Any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance.

Any and everything you download can be potentially dangerous.

In answer to your first question: Use TweakUI from Microsoft to edit your right click -> new menu. Check the MS website.

That, or use regedit (at your own risk). (start->run->regedit)
In my registry, the key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew

    Good luck.

yea, tweakUI sort sout the menu.

as for screensavers, they could contain anything really. iirc there was a virus with a budweiser sreensaver a while back.

    Grand thanks.

Ah tweakUI! Forgotten that. Never knew it was an official MS product though?

    Cheers guys.

Screensavers are safe enough if you get them from a trusted source, dont download them from Kazaa or any other P2P network or if they arrive in an e-mail attachment with the .scr file extension,

The scare about the Budweiser frog screensaver was a hoax, see:

There are plenty of screensavers out there loaded with spyware/adware. Generally the ones I've heard of causing problems come from popup ad type of sites, like crack search engines, pornsites etc., often asking you to choose from a number of screensavers, represented by so-called screenshots of said screensaver.
