Is your broadband from EsatBT? Is it ADSL?

Probably the easiest way (assuming their both running XP) is to get two Wireless NICs, set them to Ad-Hoc mode, put one in the PC upstairs, one in the PC downstairs, enable Internet Connection Sharing on the one with the Broadband connection and set the other one to use that computer as it's default gateway. The disadvantage here is that the PC with the internet connect has to be turned on for the other PC to have connection

Otherwise you'll need a Wireless Router/Gateway. You can get all in one solutions these days and they're cheap enough - Wireless ADSL Modem Router Gateways with Firewalls! This way each PC can have its own independent connection to the internet.

The easiest thing would be to get a good Wireless router. Its a HELLUVA lot easier to setup and use than software sharing, trust me.

I'd also recommend getting the wireless router.

I'm happy with my Belkin one. Firewall with WEP, SSID broadcast ON/OFF, MAC address filtering and load of other stuff. It's a 802.11b from Harvey Norman of all places but it was €60 so can't argue with it.

I have a Linksys WAG54G that seems to work fine. Its a touch expensive, but it is a wired/wireless hub, and its compatible with that new high-speed standard thingumy.

I'll 2nd the Linksys range of equipment as I just bought the WRT54G Wireless Router last week and set it up over the weekend. Working like a charm now, Also bought a Linksys Wireless Notebook Adapter WPC54G for the laptop but I need to do some upgrading on the laptop for it to work. Linksys are a Cisco company who are regarded as probably the top dogs in networking equipment. Haven't seen a bad word said about Linksys equipment yet
