    Buy a licensed copy.
If you want to use XP you need a license.
If you want to have a powerful OS without worrying about licensing use Linux.

That may not be the answer you wanted to hear, but it's an honest on :D

You could always google to see if anyone else had similar issues. I'd say microsoft would gladly try and help him out, he just has to ring up and ask. Should take less than 5 minutes!

For some strange reason Microsoft don't support pirated versions of their software. This means that dodgy copies of windows will be more likely to be infected/taken over, maybe ISP's will start taking notice when all the zombie start using up bandwidth and overloading the system.

Service Pack 2 can be up to 266MB (full version), if you look at the size of Current updates on a SUS server the total size of OS patches is over 1GB, not including patches for office etc.

Knoppix is 700MB and will do much of what the home user needs.
Remember legit home users don't usually have Outlook / Powerpoint / MsAccess / Windows PRO etc. because of the price and anyone using a windows machine for games (~€50 ea) could argueably afford a copy of XP

    Some very good points
I'd also add that MS have made it very easy to get SP2 and are shipping it out to users for free while it is also available on the cover of most magazines at the moment, including PC Live.

Nobody here would know anything about that as we are all law abiding software buying citizens.

    Google is your friend. ;)
