In the market for a new laptop. I'd like something quite portable as its I'll be lugging it around the place quite a bit. Battery life important so I'd like a Pentium M chip (anything 1.5 & upwards will do fine). 512mb ram necessary, while wifi and a widescreen display would also be nice. What would anyone recommend for about the €1700 mark? and where do you recommend to shop?

    Thanks

I just bought a new lappy from Harvey Norman for 1800 (with 18 months interest free). Its a Toshiba M30 link
Its not a powerhouse laptop but I want portability over sheer power. General spec:
    P-M 1.6
    512mb
    60gb hd
    wifi,smart card reader,ethernet,etc
    15.4 wide screen
lovely keyboard - although took a little while to get use to it
about a 3 hour batter - but havent really check that much
    [edit] dvd rw [/edit]

If your willing to buy online - some of the acer notebooks give good bang for the buck and are supposed to be good quality.

I bought a new Compaq Pesario X1140ea from the HP/Compaq shop on ebay.co.uk.

    Spec is :
    p-m 1.6 centrino (11b)
512mb ram 60Gb HD DVD rewriter, 15.4 Widescreen, SD card slot, nice keyboard, over 4 hours battery life.
all for (drum roll please) €1200 or thereabouts. Cost from HP direct was around 1800 for same spec.
