There is an advert for ......

"BBC Free to Air Satellite, including ITV, CH4 and CH5"

Is this likely to be a card or will it be the set top box?

Bloody annoying that we can't get it without forking out more cash!
    Tight barstewards.

For any one that can't see the ad it goes like this

    BBC FREE TO AIR SATELLITE
    INCLUDING ITV
    CHANNEL 4
    CHANNEL5.
ONCE OFF COST, NO MONTHLY BILLS
    CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURES
    CONTACT
    TODD: {phone number removed}
Think I'll give good auld Todd a bell tommorrow and see what the story is and what type of customer service he's offereing if the card shuts off and of course the cost. ;)

Sounds very suspect. I believe the BBC part, but the rest is probably rubbish.

Remember there were scams in place whereby a seller would sell you a card then ring up Sky and say "the dog ate it", get a replacement sent out (to the seller) and then sell that replacement on, repeating the scam.

I've removed the phone number from Tipptops post as it was effectively an advertisement here.

Is this add from a private individual or an installer? I'm tending to agree with Tom Dunne and think possibly also that it could be a deliberately misleading add by mentioning ITV and 4 and 5 etc, if it is just for the usual un carded box install.

Rang Todd to-day and asked him what the crack was with the card, but as it turns out Earthmans asumptions was right it is an installer and you have to get the whole system.
Total cost of installation and digibox is €580. I asked why I could'ent get the card on its own he said that all the cards were married to all the boxes and if swoped around it would go dead. Asked if it was possible to get a subscription onto the card he said that it would'ent be possible as this is totally separate to Sky.

So I guess in one way its an option for getting the English channels but don't rely on any back up if any thing goes wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong but the instalation and the digibox would normally cost €350 (€250 box and €100 instalation) and he must be charging €230 for the card.

Possibly the same way that Sky is available in Spain.

That price seems way over the top.

And as regards the card not working in other boxes because it is married to another, that is nonsense, a ftv card will give you itv,4 and 5 in any box.
He was trying it on-Tipptop did you not tackle him on that one?

Selling ftv cards in a commercial bulk manner whilst widespread (and we all obviously express an interest in them here) is illegal.

    .

I told him I had a spare digibox box and all I needed was the card but at the end of the day he told me the only way he was selling it was the full system or else he can't help me cry:cry:

probably a few will take this offer with the promise of ITV, C4 and C5

The ad is in the Meath Chronicle as well.

He offered me the digibox and card (no installation) for €320.
