Annoying problem

Anytime I shutdown my machine (Using start, turnoff, shutdown) it acts like a restart. Shutsdown then starts powering back up straight away. Only way to get it to stay shutdown is to hold in the power button for a few seconds (which cant be good for it). Not really a major problem but its been bugging me for a few days.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Stupid Question I know but are you sure somebody has not ticked the restart option instead of shutdown ? (pre xp )

if you have a Wireless card in the machine try turning the Wake on LAN or POwer on LAN, in the BIOS, had the same issue and this resolved it for me.
Did you recently build any new Hardware into it?

Im running Xp pro and definately hitting shutdown.

I do have it networked but it only started happening recently. Which is why its so strange as I havent done anyting to the machine for weeks.

A quick and pretty reliable way to establish if it's a hardware problem (mobo). Is to go into safemode, ensure that nothing is loading up at a=startup (msconfig) and then shut down from there. If it powers down correctly then its most likely a software issue, if not then your probably looking at a dodgy mobo.
